Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This show is for all the adults that have nothing to watch on T.V. these besides who’s using the most hair spray, are who’s tan is the darkest! This show has so many different meanings to it’s viewers it’s hard to narrow it down to just one. I can say, I don’t watch much television these days, But this is one show I made time to watch every monday. The charters, the realism is unbelievable. I love the show, this is one NBC must keep!
trauma is a great show.not many shows are realistic the way trauma is. i just started to watch the show and to hear its getting cancelled is horrible news If you cancel it your going to have alot of upset people!! keep the show !!
I love the show. It shows real life situations and I believe you all are stupid for cancelling it.
Thinks stinks. NBC does not know what they are doing.
I love love this show!!!! I think they should give it a chace.. please please!!!
Rabbit is my very favorite character. PLEASE do not cancel Trauma. I am 72 years old and love it much! I also enjoy watching the characters – the female doctor and the young paramedic. She played on NCIS as Tony’s girlfriend.
I just love this show. I never sit and watch any TV show. I am always multi-tasking but NOT when Tramua is on…..I just sit and watch.
This COULD HAVE BEEN a good show if only they didn’t constantly keep flipping the camera from one shot to another every 3-4 seconds. That absolutely drives me crazy and ruined an otherwise decent show. Why do that??
This show is AWESOME!!!! I hope that the show stays.. It would be a big dissapontment if it doesnt!
this is a good show!!! i can’t believe another interesting series is canceled before it has a chance. but hey, lets get another reality show on the air, DUH!!!
NBC rocks………………Trauma is back,,,,,, it worth the price trust me,,,, and dont u ever made such bad decision
I do NOT want to see this show canceled….there is so little to watch, and I absolutely love the characters and story line…..Rabbit is a favorite of mine and my 82-year-old mother…..we are faithful viewers
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Gracias!!! Thanks so much!!!
Bring back TRAUMA!!!!!
@lourdes: If you’ll look at the bottom of the article, there’s a link that explains that NBC ordered more episodes months ago. They’ve just started to air on Monday nights.
I love the fact that Trauma came back. My only complaint is that if I had not looked in the tv guide of our newspaper, I would not have know it was on. I can’t believe that they had no commercials/ads promoting that it was coming back. It is almost like NBC wanted it to fail because so many people complained when it was cancelled and they had to bring it back. I hope the ratings sky rocket and NBC realizes there mistake.
I actually DID see more than one commericianal about it being back on – which made me set my DV-R d go look up the article that I posted on here about them picking it back up – so they DID advertise it… trust me, I wouldn’t have researched it had I not seen the ad on TV!! Believe me, I’m beyond thrilled!! Now – let’s all share it with everyone and WATCH!! We need to keep it on the air!!
oops: typo flip…
