Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

TRAUMA and Mercy are two of my very favorite shows on right now!! I’m sad to see possibly both of them go. I really have no idea how good shows like this get cancelled and crap like “Dancing With The Stars” has about a million seasons. 24 is also cancelled, and CHUCK might get the boot ?!?!?! This is nuts, America likes the worst television.
Trauma is one of the best tv shows on, if not the best. I love all the characters in the show. As of the past year or so there has only been a hand full of shows worth watching. Perhaps it is the time slot, because it definetly is not the show. I think based on the tv programs that are kept on, the tv stations really don’t care what the viewers think. Good luck with all those crappy shows left on tv.I like the show Law and Order, but how many times a week you we have to watch… Read more »
Comment to Bill……do you want another reality show on TV. I don’t watch and reality shows they are a waste of time. Trauma has a good story line and action. So Bill watch reality “crap” but hope the series continues for the rest of us who enjoy the show.
Cancel trauma. It’s a waste of a good time slot.
Trauma is an awesome show and NBC should definately keep it on the air.

I really hate that this show was canceled, I’ve liked it from day 1. I think people need to really give it a chance. The characters aren’t the same as the other medical drama’s, It’s a refreshing take on a med show. I wish they’ed bring it back.
Last two caps!! Ohhhhh WONDERFULL!!! I love you TRAUMA!
Last night’s show was great. It just keeps on gettng better. PLEASE keep the show on the air.
I hate that this show has been canceled. I am a nurse and enjoy this show very much. There is so much potential for this show. I wish they would reconsider. Tired of watching the same boring medical shows.

I have to say trauma is awesome show and it keeps getting better. The situations could be real life and everything do seems so real. This show and army wives is my two favorites and I am going to be so upset to miss it. Please do not cancel it. I look forward to see it every Monday night!!
Tonight’s Trauma was good as usual can’t wait to see next weeks episode!! Great show
Could be a great show if they developed the working relationships more and let the traumas speak for themselves. No need to shake and move the camera. Can’t we see a little bit more than a person’s face and constant movement? Makes me nauseous.
Congrats on the show with “Emergency!” veteran Kevin Tighe!
This show rocks, they can’t cancel it! It’s great to see a realistic show about EMS. I never miss an episode
