Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Ive watched Trauma from the beginning and Love iT!.. I am really disappointed that it wasnt picked up for another season… If only ppl leaving comments was enough to keep it on.. *tear*
Trauma started slow but it has been picking up lately and the characters are finally starting to jell. The writers are starting to get it together and the actors are starting to work as a unit. I wish it could have at least one more season to see if it can become as good as ER
I AM DISAPOINTED THAT NBC IS CANCELLING THIS SHOW BECAUSE I LIKE IT AND SINCE ER ENDED I NEED A MEDICAL FIX
Love the show and characters! Well done and keeps your interest! Give it a chance!
It figures. Here we go again. Give us a great “non reality” drama, and then turn around and cancell it. The networks need to remember that there are stillpviewers that are NOT addicted to “reality tv”!!!
I love this show. The characters and the stories are great. Please do NOT cancel this show.
you have got to be kidding me, the whole paramedic class at st clair, and other schools watch this show, like u cant put something on that people love and jus shut it down, like give it the summer. like common, u suck some major balls, way to make my life even more depressing
Trolen, TURN YOUR CHANEL, AND LET US TRAMA VIEWERS HAVE OUR SHOW!
Cancel trauma. It sucks.
I love Trauma and can’ imagine why you are cancelling it.
Have you not heard? Trauma is back on the air, at least for the remainder of this season! Let’s hope it stays on!
It is really too bad that they cancelled trauma…I have watched every episode, and I love it, and would love it if NBC would change their minds..!
please keep this show!! i love it and enjoy the fact that it is not like all the other shows out there. I am upset by the fact that this show is being cancelled when it is the one of the only shows that actually shares what a team of medics is all about. If you want to cancel something, cancel mercy …it was something that was meant to be a story about helping people when all it has become is a huge affair thing. Trauma is eye catching and the passion of it is an ultimate rush! the connection… Read more »
I can not believe that ANYONE would consider cancelling Trauma…..I watch both Trauma and Mercy and love them both! They show things from different sides of the medical field. I am a medical professional & love these shows. These are what I really want to watch not some lame sitcom about family or whatever they throw in its place!
Thanks
dissapointed Kerri
It is no wonder that Trauma cannot attract an audience. I just found out that it came back on the air with new episodes and I missed them. If NBC lacks the interest to promote the show or put it in a time slot where it can build an audience, then it will fail to gain market share. I am so sick of reality TV and this is one of the best shows on TV right now and certainly one of the few that NBC has worth watching. But what do I know, I’m just a consumer without insight as… Read more »
