Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This is completely pathedic that NBC would have the nerve to cancel a show like this and keep some of the other STUPID shows. I am a FF/EMT and I felt a real connection with this show unlike, Mercy where you are setting on the edge of your seat to see who is going to screw who next. It would sure be nice if there was a television station that really cared about the men and women like those on Trauma who are out there saving lives.
I am actually hoping CBS picks it up, they seem to be the intelligent station. NBC has destroyed all my faith in them. I will not watch one show on NBC, whether I like it or not, and I haven’t found one I like.
This is a very good show and I look forward to each The acting is good and is very real.
Also I enjoy seeing the sites of San Francisco. Please return it, there are way to many
detective shows, enough murders, let’s see lifes being saved,
I loved the show it had plenty of action and the characters were awesome….BRING IT BACK!!!! I don’t think this TV station gave it a real shot!
I really enjoyed this show – can’t believe it has been cancelled. I think this was a premature decision.
Once again, I made the mistake to watch a show on NBC… Only to have their “Intelligence?” cancel it…
Great Job NBC! Maybe ABC will pick it up… They seem to know how to make a good show work!
Please give this the full chance it deserves! This show was on Mon nights and wasn’t consistant!!! It would be on then the next week it wasn’t. How can you end this show with that track record???? I love this show and so does many of my friends. I have never heard a bad review . It is an exciting show.
i completely with everything you said!
Yeah, NBC should defenitly continue the show, it is really awesome, i mean the action, the story line.
They should not end the series
I am so sad that trauma was cancelled, what a great show it was…..So much potential….so different from the other medical shows… please bring it back
I really miss this show. I liked it very much
The Show is awesome its completely different and is a medical tv show that caught my eye NBC should keep it
I loved this show. I don’t even watch tv on Mondays anymore as this was the only thing I found worth watching! I liked the twist on the hospital shows by focusing this on paramedics, and the characters were great. Really wish this show would come back and they’d take off some of the other ones that aren’t worth my time.
I’m very disappointed. This was a great show. It’s just like the networks to take the good ones and leave the bad ones.
Guess you should have gotten into it sooner. Like a record made of wax, it ain’t never comin’ back!
Another Monday of mourning….:-( If you look at the NBC line up, there really are no shows worth watching. Besides, why bother, you may get attached and they will cancel it. A minute of silence tonight at 9:00pm, please!
