Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

If I miss trama I always watch it on primetime on demand because of sports I sometimes have to miss monday nights cause husband wont watch it. But I love this show I would rather they took Jay Leno off one or two nights a week at 10.
I think some research should had been put in to the show on how the job is really done. I am an EMT I have been working on the ambulance for 17 year I have a brother that is a flight medic. Some of there stuff is fare from the real deal, But it was getting better. For some reason Shows with front line emergency people don’t stay on the air very long at all WHY? People think that saving life starts in the” ER”. ( well that show ran forever) Remember Third Watch, that show ran for awhile It… Read more »
Very disappointed. This show had me hooked. Chris Curtis does a fantastic job along with the rest of the cast. wtg NBC.
I just heard about the new show. Now its pulled?. I am a EMT and would love to see that show. Please , from what people tell me it is a great show.
I really hate that this show is being cancelled. I watch it every Monday night and haven’t missed a single episode. This is in fact the ONLY show I watch on the NBC network.
I’m an emt myself and rarely get a chance to watch tv, not that i mind since most of it bores me entirely! But i saw the first ad out before the show started and started counting the days until the premier, and wasn’t disappointed at all! It’s become my favorite and i don’t know what i’ll do when it’s cancelled…. this sucks, NBC sucks. I refuse to watch anymore NBC programming after cancelling a great show like this.
I’m so upset when I found out they were going to cancel this show!!! First the networks cancel “Saved” which was on years ago, and now this?? I am a part time Paramedic in Los Angeles, and I was so excited to see a show, that is extremely accurate, and full of intense moments people like us go through. I relate to this show so much, and now I am so disappointed….
I really hope they don’t cancel Trauma. It is one of my favorite shows!
Love watching this show on Monday nights. So sorry that they feel the need to cancel. Both of my kids are also hooked on this show. When they plan their schedule around a TV show, I know they are hooked. PLEASE reconsider and keep TRAUMA on the air!
NBC is so full of ****! They don’t know a good show when it kicks them in the head! They cancel all of the good shows and have no respect for the viewers who pay their paychecks. Remember Las Vegas? Another great casualty of inept management! I hope this whole network takes a dump. Poor Jay Leno also, gets kicked out of his tonight show gig and has to take a lower rated time slot and succumb to a poor Conan O’Brian.
I am so upset that Trauma is being cancelled!! It is my favorite show that I look forward to seeing each week!!
Trauma has it’s problems, and yet I find myself looking forward to it each week. If this show doesn’t make it, I hope another EMT/Paramedic/First Responder show comes along soon. It’s just sad that Emergency is STILL the best EMS show out there even after all these years!
trauma truly is a great show showing the working class in action. Please please don’t cancel it.
I really like Trauma and Mercy. I want both of them to stay on the air. NBC’s BIGGEST mistake was putting LENO on at 10PM EVERY NIGHT!! Really stupid on their part!
That screwed up their whole scedule. So is putting TWO HOURS OF BIGGEST LOSER!!!
Totally ridiculous thinking by NBC!! NBC is ruining what once was a good network.
They need to keep Trauma on the air and let it build it audience, as it is beginning to do. LENO isn’t doing much better ratings, but NBC is keeping that crap on.
I am truly shocked that they would cancel this one. I look forward to every monday just to see what is going to happen. It would be a great dissapointment to a big group of us if it were to end. Please keep it on the air and we will do our part to spread the word to all to watch it.
