Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

It was a great show that ended way too soon!!! Bring it back.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show and now it gone! I hate that, makes me totally MAD
I am very disappointed. I enjoyed this series. I think there are too many sitcoms on the air and not enough medical shows. I thought the characters were excellent together. It just makes me extremely disappointed.
I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!! Everytime they get a really good show going that you cant wait til the next season they cancel it without even any closure. What the hell are they thinking. This really sucks. My husband and I work full time jobs plus own our own business and barely have time to watch tv, but this is one show we made time for thanks for ******** us out of another show.
As a medical professional for over 25 yrs, the decision to cancel “Trauma” has left me broken hearted. I was a huge fan of ER for it’s entire production, and this was a soothing balm for my grieving process over it’s loss. NOW you cancel THIS show before even giving it a chance! This decision by NBC only furthers my strong belief that WHOEVER is making these decisions @ this declining network, his agenda doesn’t seem to be in Sync with the viewers, and someone needs to take a good look @ his competence! And go ahead and Pull HIS… Read more »
This bull!!!! I have been waiting forever and then to find out it was cancelled! NBC really knows how to ruin a good thing when they got it! I am so bummed and so will all my sisters and cousins once i spread the word!!!!!!
How terrible that both Trauma AND Mercy have been cancelled. I am soooo disappointed. I was looking forward to both shows, especially Mercy and now nothing. thank goodness for CBS!!!
This show was so very good. I don’t believe it should be taken off the air. Please reconsider. I liked it very much.
I am very disappointed that this show was cancelled. It is the only show that I happen to enjoy watching. Not only does it show what happens every day in the life of a paramedic (which people don’t get to see up close) but this series shows the lives of paramedics and what it takes to stay committed to helping others before yourself. NBC has suffered a great loss because I was an avid viewer and now I have no reason to watch TV shows on NBC. Yes, there are many great sitcoms, but the ones that are worth watching… Read more »
I think they should keep the show on. i am disappointed that they canceled it. its my favorite show!
This was a great show what a shame it was cancelled along with Mercy
Cancellng Trauma is a rediculous and selfish idea. It is an incredible movie and I’m very disappointed in their decision to cancel it. When i started watching it on dvds I couldn’t get myself away from the tv. Me and my husband we’d really looking forward to season two. Whats is it that the best shows alwways get cancelled??? I really hope they bring it back.
Unbelievable. Trauma was an absolutely superb medical drama. What were they thinking? Please bring it back!
Cancelling Trauma…… NBC you suck!!!! Besides Grey’s Anatomy this was my favorite show!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I will just stop watching NBC all together…. you stupid tv stations always get people going on shows and then ahh well we’ll cancel it…… BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!
