One of the most popular series to come out of the United Kingdom, Upstairs Downstairs ran for 68 episodes and five seasons (called series overseas), from 1971 until 1975. The TV show tells the story of the servants (who are downstairs) and their masters (who live upstairs) in a large townhouse in London.
Upstairs Downstairs ended with parlormaid Rose (Jean Marsh) walking through the empty rooms of 165 Eaton Place (which is up for sale) in 1930. She ponders moments of her past there and then moves on.
The BBC has now picked up the series and created a sixth season. It’s six years later and Rose, who now runs a maid hiring service, returns to become housekeeper to the new owners; Sir Hallam Holland (Ed Stoppard), his wife Lady Agnes (Keeley Hawes), and his mother, Lady Maud Holland (Eileen Atkins). Rose soon finds she has her work cut out for her as she recruits a new “downstairs” family to help run the elegance and finery of the “upstairs” world. It becomes apparent that there’s a labyrinth of secrets, lies and scandal on both levels of the townhouse.
The BBC ran the new season in December and has now released it on DVD. You can purchase Upstairs Downstairs

I would have liked to have seen more actors from the older series rather than just Jean Marsh, but many of the actors who were on the show have died, and of the actors who are still alive, many of their characters were killed off on the show.
