It looks like we finally have the first cancellation of the 2015-16 season. Four new shows have seen their episode orders cut (Truth Be Told, The Player, Blood & Oil, and Minority Report) but they’ve all stayed on the air. Tonight, ABC cancelled and pulled their low-rated Wicked City anthology drama after three airings.
Wicked City is set on the seedy Sunset Strip in the early 1980s. It revolves around Detective Jack Roth (Jeremy Sisto) and his new partner Paco Contreras (Gabriel Luna) as they try to solve a high-profile serial killer case. The rest of the show’s cast includes Ed Westwick, Erika Christensen, Taissa Farmiga, Karolina Wydra, Evan Ross, Anne Winters, and Jaime Ray Newman.
Airing Tuesdays at 10pm, Wicked City had trouble right from the start. The first episode attracted a meager 0.88 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.28 million viewers.
The second episode dropped more than 20% and this week’s third installment took another big fall, registering a 0.45 rating with 1.69 million. The latter rating is believed to be a historic low for an original episode on ABC; tying shows like NBC’s American Odyssey, NBC’s A To Z, and FOX’s Mulaney.
The Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot has been a real troublespot for ABC in recent years. Lucky 7, Killer Women, and Mind Games were all cancelled after a few airings. Forever and Body of Proof saw full seasons but also ended up being cancelled.
Word is that work on episode eight will be completed before production is completely shut down. The network will fill Wicked City’s timeslot with reruns of Shark Tank for the immediate future. At this point, it seems unlikely that ABC will air the five leftover episodes but they will probably be released online at some point.
What do you think? Do you like the Wicked City TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled? Would you like to see the remaining episodes?
Wow give the show a chance it just started . I like the series 3 episode then u cut it . thats stupid just dumb i like how it was going . sad to see it go tho
They’ve already paid for the other episodes, so why not air them instead of putting reruns of Shark Tank? This is just ridiculous. It was a decent show. They have to understand that people do DVR a lot of stuff and it may take a week or longer to catch up, but they’re only counting ratings when seen within 48 or 72 hours. They need to figure a better way of seeing what people are watching. There’s got to be shows that started out slow that became hits. Not nowadays. If they don’t go viral in 2 or 3 weeks,… Read more »
It figures here they go again taking another show off before it has a chance. If it’s to put another stupid reality show on they are making a mistake. This show was different from most and interesting. ABC sucks for sure and all they care about is the 18 – 49 age group. Hello, there are more of us out here who watch these shows more than they do. Even so why can’t you give it a chance? Oh well I’m done with ABC.
ABC execs are total a#$holes with this one! My wife and I just got into it after 3 episodes and they CANCEL IT! Give a damn show a shot. This is ridiculous and idiotic! How can you become interested in something in only 2 or 3 episodes? This is stupid because by the time you here about something and go to watch it they cancel it. Good shows have a hard time finding an audience. I hate network execs so bad. They have to be the most stupid people on earth.
I agree just started getting in to it . i eben have the DVR set up for it
Hmmm…Seems to be me ABC finally has an opening to air Beyond the Tank…They have been looking for an open slot since the reruns of Quantico.
Do I want to see the remaining episodes? You bet I do! Where can I watch them?
ABC, you really do SUCK!!! This is a great show, you idiots!!! I am going to quit watching anything on ABC because they cancel every good show. WHO WANTS TO WATCH SHARK TANK? Dexter ran for so long on Showtime, but you didn’t even give Wicked City a chance.
I do not and never will watch Shark Tank.
Seriously ABC you put this crap show on over bringing back FOREVER. Damn ABC shows the rats have no clue how to run a network.
You said it. I thought Forever had the best chance in that timeslot, it was a FABULOUS show that didn’t deserve to be treated so poorly. Just look at the thousands of complaints written on this website and others after they cancelled it. I decided then (like many others) to stop watching new ABC series, so I can’t say I gave Wicked City a shot. Now I’m glad I didn’t get sucked in. I will never watch Shark Tank, or any other crap reality show. I agree with wpyn, the network execs making these decisions have to be some of… Read more »
is forever canclled **** ******* **** dammmmm
What do I think about the cancellation of “Wicked City”? I am disgusted! I have enjoyed the unusual show very much. I looked forward to each new episode. Once again, I have wasted my time on a new show. I do not watch many new shows because I know the networks will refuse to give them a chance to find an audience. I chose a LOSER to watch, but to me it was a WINNER. Perhaps the networks should stop playing to the 18 to 49 age group ONLY. There are many of us out here who don’t fit your… Read more »
I agree. I thought this one had a lot of potential. Sure, it was dark, but they knew that going in….That’s fine – I can catch up on shows I watch on Netflix. I won’t want to watch new shows either – they never last…..
i think from now on i’ll only watch shows that are released on streaming media like netflix a whole season all at once. otherwise it’s just not worth it.
they’re not even allowing writers and producers time to adjust for audiences, it’s just nuts. All networks want to do is make a quarterly profit or replace it with a scripted reality show filled with cheap casts.
Good shows are cancelled without an honest chance to prove themselves, while bad shows are kept in spite of low ratings. Becoming attached to a good new show is a certain path to disappointment, time and time again. So why even bother watching these loser networks? No wonder I am a fan of PBS.
ABC you suck
I’m not going to bother with getting into a new show anymore. They get canceled, so what’s the point?
Exactly!
I thought, with the first episode, that this was going to be a good series. After the second episode started, I thought it might be a bit much for me to stay interested. Then with the 3rd episode, I couldn’t stay with it for more than 10 minutes before I was looking for something else to watch. And I absolutely LOVE Jeremy Sisto !!! I hope to see more of him, but the rest of the cast on this one…. well,
Ditto…… 10 minutes into the third episode is when we deleted the series.
I thought wicked city was good and it intrigued me because it was about a couple that were serial killers. Maybe if They aired a few more episodes. I’m glad they will be airing the rest of the episodes. I will be watching them online.
