It looks like we finally have the first cancellation of the 2015-16 season. Four new shows have seen their episode orders cut (Truth Be Told, The Player, Blood & Oil, and Minority Report) but they’ve all stayed on the air. Tonight, ABC cancelled and pulled their low-rated Wicked City anthology drama after three airings.
Wicked City is set on the seedy Sunset Strip in the early 1980s. It revolves around Detective Jack Roth (Jeremy Sisto) and his new partner Paco Contreras (Gabriel Luna) as they try to solve a high-profile serial killer case. The rest of the show’s cast includes Ed Westwick, Erika Christensen, Taissa Farmiga, Karolina Wydra, Evan Ross, Anne Winters, and Jaime Ray Newman.
Airing Tuesdays at 10pm, Wicked City had trouble right from the start. The first episode attracted a meager 0.88 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.28 million viewers.
The second episode dropped more than 20% and this week’s third installment took another big fall, registering a 0.45 rating with 1.69 million. The latter rating is believed to be a historic low for an original episode on ABC; tying shows like NBC’s American Odyssey, NBC’s A To Z, and FOX’s Mulaney.
The Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot has been a real troublespot for ABC in recent years. Lucky 7, Killer Women, and Mind Games were all cancelled after a few airings. Forever and Body of Proof saw full seasons but also ended up being cancelled.
Word is that work on episode eight will be completed before production is completely shut down. The network will fill Wicked City’s timeslot with reruns of Shark Tank for the immediate future. At this point, it seems unlikely that ABC will air the five leftover episodes but they will probably be released online at some point.
What do you think? Do you like the Wicked City TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled? Would you like to see the remaining episodes?
Think it was a lousy thing to do to a pretty solid piece of entertainment. It had the makings of a good detective/serial killer series and could have gone on to tell the exploits of the two cops solving other equally interesting cases. Kind of like Dexter from a different point of view.
It’s too bad Wicked City was cancelled. I was really looking forward to watching this show unfold so I do hope that the remaining episodes be released and soon. Since I discovered Hulu and Netflix, regular cable just doesn’t appeal to me or my family anymore. I would rather wait the extra day to see my shows on Hulu just to have the freedom to watch my favorite shows at my convenience. There’s only a couple shows currently in season that I wish to see and sadly Wicked City was my favorite one 🙁
Really? How could ABC be so mean as to leave us hanging after just 3 episodes? Cancel if you must but let us see the last 5 with the conclusion wrapped up in episode 8. The show really grabbed me and I want more!
Me too and I really agree it’s a great show plz bring it back
put Wicked City Back on get rid of other crap like Sundays line up .
Wait a minute. I love Sundays shows. Especially Once Upon A Time!!
SO BUMMED THAT THIS SERIES IS CANCELLED. 🙁
What happened to wicked city. The only tv show I actually liked. Will not watch anything else. I am truly upset this show has been cancelled. Please put back on air or let us have the chance to see the remaining episodes.
Please I loved to see the rest of my show it great
Loved the show, I was drawn in to it on all levels. Let us see the last episodes at least. Hate it when things are not followed through. I think the show needed a new time slot and more buzz.
Love this show and very disappointed that ABC yanked it. Great storyline…shame on you ABC for not taking on edgy shows! Take a note from FX!!!
COME ON, ARE YOU SERIOUS. I L0VE THIS SHOW! You stuck it in crappy time slot and then wonder why the ratings are bad. Give it another chance on a different day and time. At least show the remaining episodes, no body wants to watch Shark Tank reruns. Besides Dancing with the Stars I barely ever watch ABC. Wicked City brought me back to your network. I will still watch T V on Tuesday night at 10:00 but I can assure you it won’t be on ABC. Why get excited about another show just too have it taken off the… Read more »
I liked the show a lot. I am very critical of series. I feel they did not give this series enough time to get off the ground. Look at Seinfeld… there first 3 episodes were not that good. But as the characters meshed or changes were made the show ended up being one of the most watched series. Networks are too quick to judge from what they see on the ratings. Why didn’t they try a different day or time? Sell it to another network? I feel the creator had a great idea with this series unlike the same stuff… Read more »
M so disappointed! That’s all I can say!
I thought the show had a lot of potential. New series go through a tough time at first. Look at Seinfeld first 3 episodes. They were not good. Why didn’t they at least let the first season end or change the day, time it was on. Networks are so quick to cancel shows these days. But II found myself taping it so I could watch it at an earlier time since it was on a week day. I think they should try it again as a new series in the summer or sell it to another network
I loved this show!!! cant believe they cancelled it already!~
I loved the 3 episodes I got to see at least finish it out instead of leaving people hanging
I loved wicked city. Please let them finish what has been started. They always pull the best shows.
I LOVE Wicked City!!! It was my favorite new show! I’m really upset it was pulled and would LOVE to see how it all pans out! At the very least, let the remaining episodes air, and round out season one! This was a terrific TV show for me to sit and indulge in for my “me” time. It seems like this keeps happening to all the new shows I fall in love with. I’m so sad!!!
