It looks like the Zoo has been closed. CBS has decided to cancel their low-rated Zoo TV show after three summer seasons.
A CBS drama thriller based on the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge novel, Zoo, stars James Wolk as zoologist Jackson Oz. The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin, and Gracie Dzienny. After noticing animals behaving strangely during the African safaris he conducts, Oz and his team work to figure out the reason behind it. Meanwhile, the animals assaults become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious.
The series never drew a big audience for the network but it managed to hold on for three seasons. The first season averaged a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.40 million viewers. The second season dropped by more than 30%, averaging a 0.74 in the demo with 4.45 million. This past summer, the third season saw even bigger declines and averaged a 0.51 in the demo and 2.65 million.
Zoo was produced in-house by CBS Television Studios. It was profitable thanks to a deal with Netflix to stream the show once its seasons finished airing. Because of the deal, the series was profitable before an episode had even aired. Salvation, which was recently renewed for a second season, is part of a similar deal with Amazon.
What do you think? Did you like the Zoo TV show? Do you think that CBS should have cancelled it or, renewed it for a fourth season instead?
Oh my gosh NOOOOOO!! Zoo is basically my favorite show right now. I was in love with it from the beginning. I was dying for season three to come out, and when it did I was sooooo Happy. Season 3 was absolutely incredible, and I loved the plot. Yes Abigail always came back up on top…but that’s what made the show so good. I am so disappointed that they are cancelling the fourth season!!!
I am in love with this show tho!! :)))
the show should not have been cancelled, regardless of some of the negative posts, the show was entertaining, and i would have been interested in the direction the show would take in season 4. some posts suggested that the writers were running out of ideas, but i disagree because they were injecting plot twists that would have to be resolved in season 4 plus. SCIFI is not linear, it is a vehicle that takes turns and sometimes the direction is unexpected. the Zoo, in my opinion, did just that, and that is why it should have been allowed to continue… Read more »
I read the book before watching the show. I enjoyed season 1 a lot, season 2 somewhat, but by season 3 it was clear the writers had run out of steam. I assumed it would be cancelled and was almost relieved when it was, so I wouldn’t have to see how bad season 4 was.
Not happy!! I love the characters if they know there is a chance that there gonna cancel why leave us in such a cliffhanger!!!!!!!! ??????? Not right makes you not want to invest your time in shows
Definitely not happy about this. I really enjoyed this show. I love how the TV networks depend on ratings for any and all shows, and then they pull stunts like this, leaving a good show with a cliffhanger. I’m sure they new before they even finished filming season 3 that it wasn’t coming back and they could have ended on a better ending, or better yet, bring it back for a short season with a GOOD ending. But we all know that won’t happen because they don’t really care what we think, as long as we keep watching their other… Read more »
I enjoyed it very much and cancelling in the middle of a crucial question is not fair, a bad clifhanger! I want you to reconsider and bring us a good to close but not like this! pls!!
The first season was very good, the 2nd season was ok, but the 3rd season had some real issues. And, yes, they should have had a decent wrap up of the series.
CBS, I can’t believe you! Canceling Zoo is very upsetting to me because I watched all 3 Seasons and could hardly wait for the next. Just like many other viewers have said, in so many words: It’s like reading a book where someone has torn out the last few chapters! Shame on you CBS—don’t you even consider what your viewers want?! I’m sure the Actors realize they have a following and am sure they loved the series—did you consider their feelings with regard to your decision to cancel? I’m truly disappointed in you CBS! Why would anyone want to watch… Read more »
As much as I dislike zoo being cancelled, it is nothing compared to the cliff hanger from last season. I hope they , at least , move this show to Netflix or Amazon for a 3ish Episode wrap up.
I will miss it. Would have liked a good ending.
Please do not remove the show I really like.
Even if I could do it, I would buy a DVD, but with Polish subtitles.
if i was ever in charge of a network i would start a trend making it ok for networks to give the series one final episode to wrap it up
I liked the previous seasons. Just couldn’t get into this one.
You knew you were going to cancel it, so you could have given it a good ending for those of us that loved the show. Will miss it.
I couldn’t agree more! The ending was a real downer. And yes, they could have given it a good ending, instead of the awful, depressing ending. There are a lot of shows out there that can’t come close to being as good as Zoo was; yet they aren’t cancelled!
No not Zoo aswell loved this series unbelievable what wrong with you people cancelling great show so sad
