Despite a 30% drop in the ratings, CBS chose to renew its Zoo TV show for a third season, rather than cancel it. Can the network turn things around and regain some audience, or will this summer TV series go the way of the Dodo? Will Zoo be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.
A CBS drama thriller based on the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge novel, Zoo, stars James Wolk as zoologist Jackson Oz. The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin, and Gracie Dzienny. After noticing animals behaving strangely during the African safaris he conducts, Oz and his team work to figure out the reason behind it. Meanwhile, the animals assaults become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious.
Season three of Zoo opens in the year 2027. Thanks to the sterility issue, the human population is still diminishing. Meanwhile, hybrids pose a new threat. This relentless force of lab-created creatures is determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth. Although the team members have grown alienated from each other over the last ten years, Jackson, Jamie (Connolly), Abraham (Anozie), Dariela (Diaz), and Logan (Salatin) have to get past their differences and reunite when they learn that Mitch (Burke) is alive. They must stop the hybrids and their enigmatic creator – someone with a connection to their past.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Zoo averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.453 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Zoo TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season on CBS?
10/23/17 update: CBS has cancelled the Zoo TV show after three seasons. Details here.
This was the worst season ever. Could not wait for it to end! No renewal.
I hope they renew it and bring it to a conclusion, rather than leave it hanging. Unfortunately, it changed too much between 2 and 3 and my husband stopped watching it, but I was glad to persevere through it.
you have to renewal it for a fourth season, this is a really good show.
Does anybody understand these ratings. Other shows seem to have lower ratings and still survive, so why can’t this show be renewed.
Yes renewal it for a fourth season I love the show. Can’t wait to see what happen next. There or so little entertainment on TV today I hate reality shows and tired of all that S… Please renewal!!!!!!
Yasss!!! I rly love Zoo! I was expecting that this season was the last! But the last minut of the last chapter.. Omg, obviously i want the 4th season!
Cancel it. Enough is enough
I agree.
This Show now SUX !!! It has gone down the writers need to have their heads checked. It has gotten stupid! !!!
It should have concluded in the season finale. I didn’t get what was going on in the end. How many times do you have to kill the hybrid mother before she dies?
Love Zoo. Very exciting every week. Great cast. Please renew for season 4. We would miss so much. Have to know what happens!!!
I think there should be another season it was left hanging maybe CBS would like to relive their days where fans sent them nuts….
Hopefully he’ll be renewed. I enjoy watching it even if It is a week later on the DVR. Especially like Billy Burke.
I wait for the premier of each new season, and hate to see season finales… please bring Zoo back… great show! (though somebody get rid of the Abigail character… enough already)…
Season 3 ended on a cliff hanger. I definitely want a 4th season that resolves all the problems that season 3 ended with.
I watch little in the TV world, but I do watch this. I like shows that make your brain work testing out plots, trying to figure out the next move etc. There’s nothing worse than something that’s totally predictable. Is the show perfect, of course not, is it entertaining, absolutely, if you like this kind of show. So I’m hoping for a final season, one which wraps up the loose ends in a clever way and sees those that deserve a fitting end, get theirs. Enuff said :>)
