The CW has announced early renewals for eight of their current TV shows — The Flash (season two), Jane the Virgin (season two), The 100 (season three), The Originals (season three), Reign (season three), Arrow (season four), The Vampire Diaries (season seven), and Supernatural (season 11).
Of the network’s other current series, this only leaves the fate of Hart of Dixie up in the air. Season three of Beauty and the Beast doesn’t have a start date yet but it’s looking like it will have a summer run.
Here’s the press release:
THE CW PICKS UP EIGHT OF ITS CURRENT SERIES FOR 2015-2016 SEASON
Network Orders Additional Season for All Scripted Series on Its Fall 2014 Schedule
More Proven Original Series Throughout the Year, Including Fall 2015, Midseason 2016, and Summer 2016
January 11, 2015 (Pasadena, CA) – The CW Network has picked up eight of its current series for the 2015-2016 season, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW, during the network’s session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena. In essence, The CW picked up all of the scripted series from its Fall 2014 schedule to next season.
“Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience,” said Pedowitz. “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups.”
The series being ordered for the 2015-2016 season include ARROW (Season 4), JANE THE VIRGIN (Season 2), REIGN (Season 3), SUPERNATURAL (Season 11), THE 100 (Season 3), THE FLASH (Season 2), THE ORIGINALS (Season 3), and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (Season 7). Specific premiere dates for each series will be announced at a later time.
What do you think? Which of these shows do you think you’ll be watching next season? Do you think any of them should have been cancelled instead?
Rena – don’t presume you know what ALL “people” are thinking, liking and/or feeling about the Network TV Shows they like to watch. Even tho I really enjoy watching Arrow, Flash, The originals, Vampire Diaries, The 100 & Reign on my DVR, if I didn’t I wouldn’t want to be lumped-in or classified as one of your so-called people that you so broadly speak about. I’m not your people & neither is anyone else so state your opinions as your own opinions & stop lumping all the rest of us together and calling us “the people” because we’re not your… Read more »
Actually, the fact that 308 million Americans choose NOT to watch CW, does show that most people (as opposed to “my people” which I never used) don’t care about what’s on CW.
CW doesn’t even make it into the Top 10 networks most nights at this point, being clobbered by Univision, Fox News, USA, TBS, TNT etc…
But you’re right, it must just be me who doesn’t think those shows are worth the time…
Rena,
I am much more likely to check out CW shows now that i know what side intelligent viewers are on. The CW should thank you for the free advertising.
That’s quite insulting to the 308 million people who don’t watch CW nightly.
Do you REALLY think they’re not intelligent?
By the way I do eat lame, wanna-be bullies like you for breakfast… Yummy! 🙂
I love the 100 keep it going plox
The 100 is the best show on…TV!!! Exciting dramatic great writing and suspense filled…
Season 2 episode 6 fog of war the parking garage scene. ….and that music…on the toy radio…was GREAT!
The 100 is my favorite show the CW has ever had.
I like the Vampire Diaries ,Even more The Originals, and Reign.
So let me ask you those Rena what is it that you think is a good show? I will say this is Syfy, NBC, ABC, and CBS have been canceling shows with great ratings the first season but after that they just let them go. So say Supernatural for example was on another network and had suberp ratings it would still be a flop? To me it sounds like you like arguing for the sake of arguing.
I apologize as I haven’t been able to follow your logic. No network has canceled shows with great ratings in their first year that I can recall, and certainly not on the past 20 years. They do the opposite: pretend shows that flopped are hits and renew them. Supernatural, if it had great ratings would be a hit. It’s a flop because its ratings are bad. The fact that it’s on CW is not the reason its ratings are bad. The fact CW is programming a bunch of flops is why CW is doing so poorly (even as it tries… Read more »
Here are some shows that were canceled way before its time.
Terra Nova had a rating of 3.6million from 18-49 canceled after the first season. FOX
Revolution after two seasons. NBC
Then here is a one that shouldn’t of been but was is Almost Human had higher ratings than most of J.J. Abrams shows and Bones which had a lower rating then Almost Human got renewed.
Terra Nova has really bad ratings so it was logical to cancel it, so did Revolution, which really should never have been renewed after season 1.
Almost Human also had bad ratings, and I’ll add that J.J. Abrams is a serial flo-maker, no matter what his PR keeps claiming.
Generally, it seems to me that you were taken in by the PR that keeps being copy-and-pasted by the press as all those shows were doing really poorly (but were called “hits” until they got canceled).
My family found THE 100 on netflix. We love the show. Got drawn in right away. Love the actors and the story is amazing. We’re hooked.
All CW Shows needs us too
cw network cares a lot about their demos they also need viewers to watch tv too
The CW targets a tiny part of the overall audience and surprisingly to all fails to attract wide audiences…
i will be watching supernatural. it is by far the best programme on tv. i hope it never ends
I will watch Vampire Diaries, The Originals, The 100, Beauty & the Beast, and Arrow. That’s the order of my preference too; starting with Vampire Diaries at the top.
Hard to argue with the “genius” of renewing a flop for an 11th season of guaranteed bad ratings.
Mark Pedowitz is so great they’ll make statues to his ineffectiveness.
RENA
SUPERNATURAL SEASON 10 IS A GREAT SUCCESS WITH WITH THE RAITINGS AND WHEN THE 11TH SEASON STARTS THE RAITINGS WILL GET ALOT HIGHER THE VERY SOON SPORTS AND OLYMPICS WILL START UP AND I AM AFRAID THAT OLYMPICS AND SPORTS RAITINGS WILL GET HIGHER THAT WOULD KNOCK DOWN SUPERNATURAL RAITINGS SO CW NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIND A network that will catch the raitings to supernatural so nothing bad will happen
I advise you to consult TV Media Insights and check out the ratings.
Supernatural has always been a remains a flop (like everything on CW the wanna-be network that never was).
You probably don’t realize that most days CW doesn’t even make it to the Top 10 of networks in spite of being free over-the-air and owned by mega-conglomerates…
SPN is not a flop
1.”flops” get cancelled after a season or two or in a few episodes, not last 11 seasons
2.SPN is CW second or third highest rated show with Reign,TO,VD,HoD,The 100 rating lower. That is not a flop
3.Its sucsessful & profuputbale internationally & in. Syndication so again, that’s not a flop.
Sorry to disappoint you but yes, it is a flop.
We live in an era where flops are renewed in the glaring absence of hits.
CW has never had a hit do it renews its flops. That’s management behavior that is bizarrely not just tolerated but encouraged in Hollywood.
As for foreign sales, that’s the pat PR line to explain renewal of flops. Great since even in the internet age, there’s no way to check…
The arrow needs to be cancled. Supernatural
Will be up when they decide.
This is the longest tv series. And
It just keeps going!
RpArrow is a season from syndication & Czws second or third highest rated show,it shouldn’t & won’t be cancelled
CW renews flops so the fact Arrow is dong poorly won’t prevent it from being renewed (at least until CW closes up show which could happen if and when Tribune decides to dump it which it should).
As for syndication, the idea that a flop will make money in syndication is ludicrous, in spite of the constant stream of false information coming out of the networks claiming huge sales for shows nobody watches.
The Best Show’s In My Opinion…
If by “best” you mean lowest-rated, than yes…
I love all the cw shows, if abc family doesn’t air a tv show on the summer lineup that means I will definitely watch BATB
Well-done CW street-teamer. 😉
For some reason there can’t be an article about CW without a street-teamer claiming that he or she watches every show on that ridiculously low-rated network….
I love all the shows on the cw network keep renewing them for more seasons
I hear you CW street-teamer.
Too bad CW can’t hire an audience like it can hire street-teamers… 😉
Well, I do watch every show renewed except Supernatural, I never got into it, but I do watch a lot of tv. These shows are only one of many. Also, Arrow is one of my faves and I love BATB too.
Certainly the abysmal ratings of CW are due to many people watching ALL their shows…
Hi Rena. You seem to really, REALLY dislike CW and it’s shows. Question: why are you spending so much time commenting here? Are you seriously trying to convince fans of the network and shows that they are wrong? Please, enjoy watching what you watch. We will continue to watch what we like. No cost to you whatsoever.
I see those articles in my news feed and reading that CW has hits or that it is renewing hits does get my truth-loving blood going. 😉
It’s not that I don’t like CW.
I don’t care about CW one way or the other. I do care that their shows are terrible and that they keep making more terrible shows.
I also care that they keep getting the press to pretend those flops are hits, so I think it’s necessary for someone to occasionally throw some lights onthe reality of the ongoing commercial disaster that is CW.
I, for one, happen to enjoy most of what’s available on “The CW.” I do not find them to be as terrible as you seem to think. The old Latin maxim applies . . . DE GUSTIBUS NON DISPUTANDEM EST. You can translate that yourself I’m sure, since you wish to play the role of “taste master/mistress.” I would ask, however, that you need not your taste on the CW audience. I am an intelligent human being who happens to enjoy watching ARROW, etc. on the CW. If you do not . . . the are many other channels that… Read more »
I didn’t know your mother was related to the Castro Brothers… 😉 OK, that’s a bit mean but not wanting to hear anything bad is not exactly a democratic or American value. It’s even more bizarre when I keep reading this on discussion boards, which are, by their nature, for discussion!!
Back to CW, it’s not just my “taste” (or clearly lack thereof), the ratings show that the American public has rejected resoundingly everything the CW brass has thrown to the wall.
CW’s reaction? Let’s make more!!!
And then they wonder why they fail…
Love the fact arrow is coming with more greatness can’t wait!!
If “greatness” means “low ratings” then I agree… 😉
greatness is measured is quality not quantity of viewers terrible shows can get high ratings but lower rated shows can be better in quality. The CW make some great shows and even though they are lower rated you can not knock the quality of shows like the 100 and arrow.
Sorry but the game is to attract viewers with you quality, not repulse them.
People know of CW’s show and don’t watch them because they’re not very good.
