CSI: NY: Has the CBS TV Series Been Cancelled?

CSI NY canceled? We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.

It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.

At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”

TV show supportIt’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.

What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

Maybe you prefer the 18 to 49 age group, but people over this age, particularly a growing number of seniors, watch a lot of TV. I have not talked with anyone who does not like the CSI series, and especially CSI NY. Reality shows may be a “turn-on” for some people, but they product a negative effect for me and a number of my friends.

I think Sela Ward should have been cast instead of Melina Kanakaredes. Kanakaredes was too much of a flirt and too self centered.I didn’t like her style.

CBS should dump the reality shows and either dump or clean up the comedies.Reality shows and comedies are unsuitable for their time slots, too much talk about sex and too much nudity.CBS should realize that kids are watching tv too.
Clean up your act CBS. Keep the good shows, notably the dramas like CSI NY.

I love the show.I hope it comes back. Gary Sinise is fantasic. If the show has to end, I would love to see Gary Sinise in another series this fall.
I strongly believe the ratings system is horribly flawed. Not everyone can afford cable, including me, and be represented in the ratings. It is very unfair. There has to be another way to judge whether shows stay on. If anyone reading this comment can think of a remedy to this problem, please do so. We would all be very grateful. Thank you.

I love CSI NY but I feel they made a mistake when they added Sela Ward to the cast. She appears to know it all and can solve the case without the aid of the rest of the crew. She needs to return to lifetime or where ever she came.

C.S.I. N.Y. is a very good show. Would hate to see it cancelled. Might think about moving it to a different day. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. People go out on Friday nights, we record every episode.

Was very dissapointed when CSI Miami was cancelled. and…..now maybe CSI New York too. Wow, maybe we should take some reality shows off so we can keep enjoying CSI segments. Please reconsider, there are not many shows that keep my interest for this long of time.

CSI:NY will continue until there are no more stories to tell, no more crimes to solve………..one of the best group of actors around. have been watching from the beginning, to cancel will be an “injustice”. We don’t need another reality show to take it’s time slot………………………………..
