He-Man and the gang may be coming to your local cineplex soon. Deadline reports that McG is in talks to direct Sony’s live-action film adaptation of the classic 1980s animated series.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered in 1983 and ran for two seasons before ending in 1985. The series was then re-booted in 2002 by Cartoon Network, where it ran for two seasons.
The film, like the animated series, will follow the adventures of prince-turned-warrior He-Man and his mission to save the world from the evil Skeletor. A live-action film adaptation was made in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. The movie was not a financial success.
McG could be the right candidate. He’s worked extensively in film and television, directing both the Charlie’s Angels film adaptations and producing such series as The O.C., Chuck, and Supernatural.
What do you think? Are you a fan of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe? Would you watch a live-action film? Who would you cast as He-Man?
I feel McG is the wrong person to even touch this. He’s best works is being an Excecutive Producer for Supernatural. I love that show. This is a fantasy style comic book with mystical worlds and powers. Something more epic of a scale then what McG can handle. You need someone who can give us the Eternia that is beyond spy movies and spy shows. Not in his wheelhouse. Sorry McG, this epic story shouldn’t be considered for you. It has the ability of being in such a more grandeur scale of done correctly
