Fans of Pitch and The Exorcist have reason to be optimistic. FOX boss Dana Walden recently discussed the season two chances for the TV series, Deadline reports.
Both shows ended their freshman seasons this past December, earning lower-than-expected ratings. Pitch, which stars Kylie Bunbury as the first female player for Major League Baseball, averaged a .83 rating in the 18-49 demo with a total of 3.032 million viewers. The Exorcist, which is based on the classic 1973 horror movie, brought in even lower ratings, with an average rating of .68 in the 18-49 demo and only 1.914 million viewers.
However, the low ratings don’t necessarily mean FOX will cancel the series. At a recent conference, Walden said second seasons for both shows are “in the conversation”:
Both are very much in the conversation. Not sure. Exorcist actually improved our time period on Friday night by about 35% and it’s an interesting opportunity. It’s never going to be a big ratings winner because of the serialized nature but I thought the show was really good and it was very consistent. Pitch? Bigger conversation.”
And what is that conversation for Pitch? Walden says the network has a tough decision to make:
It’s a female-skewing idea, but it’s about baseball and men watch baseball. So we’ve tried and the delayed-viewing is excellent. Now we have to make a tough decision which is in this environment is it possible to grow Pitch to 6 or 7 million viewers on a seven-day metric?”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Pitch and/or The Exorcist? Do you want a second season?
Please renew The Exorcist for Season 2! It is such an enthralling show and there are so little good horror shows on TV now. Please!!!
Loved both shows. Bring them back, why keep renewing these stupid shows and giving up on the great ones. Give them a chance.
love pitch! watch it with my mom and my 11 year old son.
I loved Pitch! My favorite show last season. Love the sports and romance aspect. Please do not cancel. This is a great show that can inspire girls to go after their dreams. It sort of reminded me of Friday Night Lights. And we all need more shows like that one. Need I say more?

“Pitch” and “24:Legacy” are awesome and uplifting shows. For “24,” It’s not often that you see the lead “military bad ass” as a black man. And as for “Pitch”… A beautiful black woman in the majors. I believe more young women (of all races) were watching it for that concept alone. Men were watching it because it’s a sports show. I truly hope they bring them both back for multiple seasons.
Have enjoyed watching this with my baseball playing son… I love a different perspective and he keeps asking when it’s coming back…. please … it’s good family tv with a great moral to the story!!
Please renew Pitch for a second season. I really enjoy the show.
This female baseball fan cannot get enough of PITCH. I’ve watched the whole first season three times. Time for the network guys to realize that broadcast share is just the tip of the iceberg for viewing shows anymore.
Pitch is a fantastic show! I’ve watched the first season several times on Amazon, and can’t wait to see what comes next. It’s such a rich ensemble cast, and has made me interested in Major League Baseball with its authenticity.
The show ending clearly makes the reason i would to whats next
Please bring back Pitch. I usually watch on iTunes, but I will switch to prime time if it makes a difference.
Please bring back Pitch! With the proper promotion and time slot, this series would be a huge hit with men and women. Air all of Season One over again, and heavily promote it. They almost shelved’ Cagney and Lacey’ in the eighties for similar reasons. Look at what it became!
YES!! Please bring it back for another season. Great show!!
Love Pitch!! Renew, renew, renew. Many shows have started out slow then pick up speed and viewers as it progresses. Pitch deserves a second season. Girls that play baseball deserve a positive spotlight, and a dream to play ball in the big leagues.
LOVE Pitch
