Red Widow: New ABC TV Series; Cancel or Keep It?

red widow tv show cancel or keep?ABC hasn’t had much luck Sundays at 10pm. GCB was cancelled last year and 666 Park Avenue was dropped this season. Has the network found a winner in Red Widow or will it be rubbed out as well?

Red Widow revolves around a suburban mom whose husband is killed after he steals from the Russian mob. She finds herself caught between the interests of the mobsters and the FBI. The cast includes Radha Mitchell, Clifton Collins Jr., Luke Goss, Sterling Beaumon, Suleka Mathew, Erin Moriarty, Jaime Ray Newman, Jakob Salvati, Lee Tergesen, Wil Traval, Rade Serbedzija, and Goran Visnjic.

The two-hour series premiere on March 3rd drew a 1.5 rating with 7.13 million total viewers. It was a disappointing start to be sure and Red Widow was in fourth place in its 9pm timeslot.

Compared to the debut of GCB one year earlier, the network was down by 32% in the demo and down by 6% in viewership.

In week two, the ratings fell about 25% and registered a 1.1 demo rating and 5.31 million. Last week’s installment dropped again, to a 1.0 rating with 4.36 million.

It’s currently the network’s lowest rated series currently on the schedule. Unless the show’s ratings quickly rise, Red Widow is surely doomed and won’t see a second season.

On the positive side, ABC will surely let all eight episodes air. The last episode of the season (and likely the series) is scheduled to air on May 5th. Hopefully the finale will give viewers some sense of closure.

But what do you think? Should ABC cancel Red Widow or renew it for a second season instead? Why do you think it hasn’t caught on? Is Red Widow a better show than the ratings seem to indicate?

I love the show and the fanale was great!!!Can’t wait for Marta to “fall in love again” with we know who. I believe the show has the lowest ratings due to the day and time slot it is in. If they would put it on a Thurs. night at 9pm, it would probably take a few good episodes and it would be in the top 2 channels.

PLEASE DON’T CANCEL RED WIDOW. I love this show. The problem isn’t the show, but the show time slot. Please consider moving it to a better time slot. Give it another season.

please bring red widow back in the fall. When you bring it back in the fall people tend to watch it and stay watching it all through the year. they get hooked on watching the show

This is an excellent show. It really shows a love of a mother for her husband and her children and what measures she will take to keep them safe. It is intriguing and thought provoking how her relationship with Mr. Schiller has progressed throughout the series. His father said it best when he stated she made him weak but, his feelings for her makes him vulnerable. This is real life played very well.

The story is just starting, I see “Fifty shades Grey” in this too!
It has so much to give yet! I think the time is bad, Sunday night at 9pm. I watched half the episodes on demand just because I was too tired to stay up! It would be a loss if it’s not renewed!!

Yes, this show needs to be renewed! it’s a refreshing story line to tv and it is different, not to mention interesting. of corse one has to know what happens between Schiller & Martha! This storyline can go places, in a number of different directions. there should definitely be a season 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 etc.

Red Widow is great! Full of twists, turns, and PLENTY of suspense. I love it! It was so good to Goran Visnjic back on TV not playing a doctor this time but a very good looking twisted character who has plenty of flaws.

I love this show, also. The name, “Red Widow” throws one off. Another night and time? This show deserves another chance. The relationship between Schiller and the “widow” is worth watching. Doesn’t the character, Schuller, remind you of the manipulative character in that sexy trilogy of books about Grey?
