Though FOX didn’t officially announce the cancellation of Running Wilde, the writing has certainly been on the wall for quite some time. It’s now been cancelled.
The freshman sitcom, which stars TV veterans Will Arnett and Keri Russell, debuted back on September 21st with a mediocre 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.59 million viewers. The following week, the demo rating fell by 21% and the next few weeks saw it hit a season low — a truly horrible 1.1 rating with just 2.29 million viewers. Interestingly, viewership started to build after that but it wasn’t enough. The eight episodes that aired averaged just a 1.6 in the demo and 3.72 million viewers.
Understandably, FOX opted not to order any additional episodes of Running Wilde, keeping the season order at 13 installments. FOX subsequently pulled the show for November sweeps. The network has occasionally been running repeats on Sunday nights as well as Saturdays at midnight.
Today, at the TCA press tour, FOX president Kevin Reilly confirmed that Running Wilde will not be coming back. He took some of the blame for the show’s lack of success but acknowledged that the sitcom started off slow. He said, “Look, one of the early lessons you learn is to bet on the talent. [The series] was slow to find itself. I was involved. I was involved probably more than I wanted to be. Mitch didn’t resent it. It struggled to find its legs. It found them probably too little too late.”
What do you think? Was Running Wilde worth watching? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

Recently found and finished the series on Netflix. I had never heard of this show and found it to be quite funny. It was great to see a show break away from the Dr./Hospital stuff or like another said, sex and vomit. Bring it back please!
Really loved the show, almost as much as Arrested Development. Shame it’s cancelled, definitely feel for Mitch
Too bad, it was a great show!
this is an awesome show and i love it. i found it on netflix cause my life is very hectic as are many other peoples lives so they may have dvr’d it or taped it or just waited for it on netflix….please bring the show back it was a great break from all of the same stupid so csalled comedy shows that networks are putting on tv…bring back running wilde!!!!!!!!!!!!
sad, sad, sad, sad
I knew right away when I started watching this show, which I also found accidentally on Netflix, that it was going to be canceled. The talent is amazing and the script writing is excellent, so unlike the Jersey Shore shows of TV land…it most likely was cancelled because no one was having sex with each other or vomiting drunk in the house for ratings. David Cross is and Will Arnett together?, are you kidding me? Too good to be true. This show is AWESOME! Fox eats one!
love this show…so sad to hear that it is over. just discovered it on netflix.
I, like many here, didn’t watch it when it came out on TV, but now that it’s on Nexflix I’ve started to watch the series. I started watching it because I’ve always enjoyed Keri Russell and so far I’ve found the show entertaining. I’m only 4 episodes in, and it’s not surprising to me that it didn’t do well originally. The humor is an acquired taste.
I LOVED RUNNING WILDE! I wish they would put it back on. The comedic talent was amazing! BRING IT BACK!!!!
Totally worth watching. Actually really fun to watch. I think it didn’t advertise well. No one understood the concept. If the scenario had been explained better in the ads they ran maybe it would have gotten more people to actually watch it at all to discover it was a good show.
I found it on netflix too! great stuff. I’m sad its over.
I also found it on netflix and I loved the show. I didnt know it was cancelled until I finished season 1. Never had a clue it was even on fox.
I also found it on Netflix. I’m a HUGE fan of Arrested Development, and this show is just as brilliant. It saddens me to know that I found out about it before I had the chance to support it. *sigh* The world is too stupid for your genius, Mitch.
I think Running Wilde was a good show. I don’t know if the comedy was to subtle for people or it just wasn’t there style but it seems like EVERY show I like gets canceled by you douches. Stop making terrible romantic/drama bullshit and start making some good comedies. Something i can watch without wanting to kill myself because its stupid, boring and all they talk about is love interests or they make it soooooo dramatic DUN DUN DUN WAIT NO ONE ACTUALLY DIES IN THIS!!!! its all bs.
Add me to the found on netflix list…
I loved Running Wilde. I found it by accident on netflix because i only have basic cable now. I would love to see more of these shows on basic cable. there isn’t very many shows like this one. I loved the characters they worked together very well. I would love to see what happens next with this sitcom.Waiting in anticipation.
