Cedric the Entertainer is staying in the groove. TV Land has renewed The Soul Man for a second season.
The comedian announced the good news on Twitter last night, writing, “Just got word #TheSoulMan has been picked up for season #2. Thank all of you who wrote in and/or just watched me @niecynash bout to Turn Up!”. There’s no word yet on when the new episodes will be shot or aired.
Soul Man debuted in June to 1.92 million viewers but the ratings declined over the course of the season. The finale drew 992,000.
Last week, Cedric seemed to fear for the fate of his show and asked fans to write to TV Land in support of the show, even supplying a sample letter.
The Soul Man revolves around an R&B artist from Las Vegas who moves his family back to St. Louis to become a preacher in his father’s church. The cast also includes Niecy Nash, John Beasley, Jazz Raycole, and Wesley Jonathan.
