The Unit: After Cancellation, Producers Get Some Good News

The UnitToday certainly wasn’t a good day for fans of The Unit. CBS cancelled the show after four seasons on the air. For producers of the series however, today’s dark cloud also had a silver lining.

Though there won’t be any new episodes featuring Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Scott Foley and company, the show will return to the airwaves next year.

The show’s studio, 20th Century TV, announced today that the military drama has been sold in syndication. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Unit has been cleared in 56% of the country, including Fox and CBS stations. It’s sold in all 15 of the top markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas.

Because only 69 episodes have been produced, the stations are likely to run episodes only once or twice a week. While several series have been saved recently because of potential syndication profits, there’s seemingly no interest in continuing The Unit. This likely stems from the fact that hour-long dramas aren’t as popular in syndication as half-hour sitcoms.

The series launches into syndication beginning in the Fall of 2010.

CBS is my favorite non-cable station but what the heck? This is only another on the long list of shows that they put on, get you interested and then they just go away. This was a fantastic show with a wonderful cast. I just cannot believe CBS has let me down, one more time. What’s next, NCIS????

Thanks alot CBS as a soldier who has served on active duty for the last 9 years and been overseas to Iraq 3 times I can tell you that you wont find a soldier out here that didn’t like watching The Unit. Then your going to leave us with that pathetic excuse of an ending. Absolute garbage you should be ashamed of yourselves only way to redemption is to bring it back for its final season to close it our properly.

Someone with some brains in hollywood should make a movie based on this series…before the actors get too old. If they can minimze the usual antiwar message and make it pro soldier, the movie would be a blockbuster.

This show got stronger with each season. The last episode was pathetic and made it obvious that the show was a goner. Too bad. Now there really is almost nothing to watch on regular TV.

The Unit was my favorite show. I am so disappointed. It was the most creative show on TV.
The cast was sensational. I did stumble on a re-run on Washington DC local channel 20 last night
and was delighted. Even the re-runs are better than anything else on TV now.

The Unit was a great show, I never missed a show. I am extremely disappointed that its been can celled. today I found a marathon showing of reruns on the Sleuth channel, and I was delighted to watch the reruns.

Screw CBS and all the networks this is a result of not being PC just as they watered down 24 last season. The liberal media is afraid it might give us puppets the idea we are still free

I have been sitting and watching reruns on other stations waiting for The Unit to come back after Christmas. Taking over The Medium fron NBC was one of the worst decision you guys made. The Medium had it’s chance to be a hit on NBC and it couldn’t make it. So why would you take over a show known for a miss. I started to watching the Medium on NBC when it first came out and after two season it couldn’t keep my interst anymore. The Unit was my favorite show on TV and I am going to miss it very much. So, guess I need to find a different station to watch and quit watching anything that might come on CBS in the future.
