The White Queen: “Cancelled” by BBC, No Season Two

The White Queen canceled, no season twoEven though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.

Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.

The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.

According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.

It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”

What do you think? Are you sorry that The White Queen won’t be continuing in some form? Are you glad that the story was designed to wrap after 10 episodes?

I really loved this show. I watched the whole season in one day. I wish they would reconsider making a second season. I would love to see where the story goes.

My girls and I are from Australia and we had to buy the DVD of the series it is extremely disappointing to find the there is no series 2. My youngest daughter is an avid fan of Phillipa Gregory and has read all the books, why spend money on gang related violence shows and not this series that is based in historical events. A good way to learn without even knowing you are. Please give us more even if we are a minority viewing category.

It’s truly disappointing news as my husband & I were looking forward to the continuation of the story. We loved the atmosphere, intrigue, acting & period costumes so this is very sad indeed. Perhaps the BBC will renege & either Starz or another station will come to the rescue!

I am truly disappointed that there will not be a second season of the White Queen. It was the only reason that I subscribed to STARZ. There are so few good Medieval shows recently. The White Queen and the Borgias being the best of them. Both of which have been canceled. Sad, sad day.

This is a great series, one which kept me on the edge of my seat. Leave it to BBC to screw things up!! The ONLY reason I got Starz was to watch this (well, ok and Magic City), but who wants something that is only one season! So disappointed since the series was Fantastic!!

PLease reconsider and shoot a second season

My daughter and I are very upset to find out the series has ended. We found it on demand with our cable network and was trying to find out when it would be back on. Oh my what a terrible disappointment. It ended with so many unsolved situations. No closure. I pray they reconsider.

It’s the first time in a very very long time that I’ve been hooked on a series. I was looking forward to Season 2 and decided to look for it just to find this. I guess all good things come to an end. Sad that it was shut down.

It’s a very terrible news and sad, because it’s a very good serie, and, I hope that you can work things out and continue with the series. Please think in the viewers,we are anxious for the second season. Please……

It’s a sad shame they will not be writing more scripts for a 2nd season. Surely the fame of other shows like this one have not proven we need another 10 episodes to eat upon for our brains?

My wife and I loved the series. It’s unfortunate that starz will not continue and if this is typical of starz we will likely not invest time watching their other series if they are going to cut them off when the author has more to offer in the series.
