Touch: Premiere Ratings

Touch ratingsLast night, Touch debuted on the FOX network. How were the ratings? A positive sign that the show has a chance or an indication that it’ll be cancelled quickly?

Following an hour edition of American Idol, Touch got a solid launch. Kiefer Sutherland and company attracted a very positive 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.9 million total viewers. The pilot episode easily won the timeslot, in part because ABC opted not to run an original episode of Modern Family at 9pm.

Per the fast affiliate numbers, Touch retained 60% of the lead-in demo from Idol. FOX has used Idol to launch several new shows over the years — Glee, Human Target, Lie to Me, and Fringe — but Touch retained a higher percentage than any of them.

Touch also had the best premiere numbers for any FOX drama this season — beating Terra Nova and Alcatraz. The series had the third best series debut of FOX’s current season, bested only by New Girl and Napoleon Dynamite.

The show won’t become a regular part of FOX’s schedule until March 19th but there certainly seems to be some interest in Touch.

What do you think? Did you watch Touch? Are you looking forward to the show’s return? Will the ratings hold up or will it be cancelled after one season?

My son was home and told my husband and I we had to watch this show. So, we found it on Amazon, paid $2.99 for it and it was the best $2.99 I’ve ever spent. I can’t say enough good things about this show. I watch Fringe and Alcatraz, and I have to say I would choose Touch over both. It’s smart, emotionally charged, and uplifting; a series truly worth watching.

Keifer was excellent in 24 and I was not disappointed with him as a father. I love the dram. I wish it was a 2 hour premier. Can’t wait for the next airing.

Yes, I did watch ‘Touch’ the other night. I’m actually watching it for the second time as I post this. I found it very interesting that one review likens ‘Touch’ to ‘Person of Interest’, as POI is my absolute favorite new show. I enjoyed Keifer Sutherland throughout his 24 run and he seems to be creating a new character here for us to follow and embrace. I look forward to March 19th with high hopes and great anticipation.

I’m glad it is going to be on air for 17 episodes. I watch very few
shows on TV, but this will be 1 of them. A good departure from
the various “shoot-em-up/forensic” ones that have taken over
the networks the past few years, yeah. Keifer was excellent as
    the father.

The whole family sat down and watched it. From ages 49 to 7, along with one high functioning autistic teenager, it was a total hit! Great job Fox, we will definitely be waiting for it in March.

AMAZING SHOW. I can’t said enough about how great this show is. I’m sad that I have to wait until March to see it again.

Alcatraz didn’t get to stay on top for long, did it? I like Alcatraz and Fringe a lot better than Touch — heck, I like Heroes a lot better than Touch, though I guess it’s not fair to compare at this point, since we’ve only seen one hour of Touch so far and Heroes had a long time to develop beloved characters, etc. Come March (too bad it wasn’t the 18th!), I won’t be tuning in myself, but I might occasionally glance at it when my mom watches it.

  9. Why says

Said it before, will say it again. Best new show of the year, perhaps last two or three. Original, intriguing, captivating. Can’t wait for the next episode in March.
