Will A Gifted Man be cancelled or renewed for a second season? As the show winds down for 2011-12, that’s the big question for fans of the CBS TV series. In a recent interview, executive producer Neal Baer shared his thoughts but first, let’s look at the show’s ratings.
For those who came in late, A Gifted Man revolves around a self-absorbed and talented surgeon who starts questioning the purpose of his life when he’s visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast includes Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The series debuted back in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.45 million total viewers. The premiere matched now-cancelled Medium’s 2010 opener in the demo but did improve in total viewership. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo.
The season to date has a 1.3 average and 8.34 million total viewers. It’s easily the network’s weakest drama — in both the demo and total viewership — even when the Friday night timelot is taken into account. Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average. With an abundance of stronger programming, A Gifted Man is certain to be cancelled after all 16 episodes have aired.
In speaking with TV Guide, Baer however remains optimistic and shared, “[CBS] really likes the show, and we haven’t talked about the future at all except trying to just do great episodes… They’re very supportive of the show and I know they really like it, so we’re very hopeful about coming back in the fall.”
Because Baer and company are betting that the show won’t be cancelled, some storylines will be left unresolved in the season finale. Baer noted, “There’s plenty to hope for and wonder about… There are definitely questions about what will happen in relationships in the future.”
What do you think? Do you think that A Gifted Man should be cancelled or renewed for season two? Should the storylines have been wrapped up in the season (likely series) finale?

I want see season 2…..
I hope they don’t cancel it..usually I don’t watch those kind of shows but I found myself loving the show..best series ever and I hope there’s a season two
This show was and will always be a favorite for me. I feel this needs to continued and be rated after another season. Most popular reviewed shows are to me not being aired at decent times. 10:00 pm is too late for the good shows, most working people are in bed by 9:00 pm.
So please bring this show back , this is totally under rated, thanks, Rick
The show should come back. It was one of the most interesting and captivating shows ever! I believe the air time had a lot to do with it and that was a big issue for me. I encourage you to have them bring back this awesome show preferably on a Wed. or Thurs. please! I miss holt neuro and clinica esanado!
This was the best show on TV last season. I can’t believe CBC has canceled it. It makes me sick. We have enough crime dramas, sitcoms, and reality shows!!!! This is the first good show that has been on in a long time and CBS cancels it. How crazy is that?!?!?!?!
The show is great please don’t cancel it!!
We love the series. Finally a show featuring characters with brains instead of drunken, sex driven or self-promoting idiots!!! Thank God for cable.
my wife have been waiting for the show to start whats happening
My wife and I like the show, and thought it was well done, at least by prime time TV standards. Why not bring it back and give it at least a half a second shot. If its ratings don’t improve by the “winter holiday” – cancel it♥
Me and my family love the show. Great actors doing great things for people. All the good shows they take off the air.
Both my wife and I love th show on Friday. It is a real keeper
Love these two show. When will they be coming back on I hope soon.
This is one of the best shows I have seen on television. The characters are wonderful and the stories great. I am appalled by the shows that are kept on television and wonder about the tastes of the American viewing public. Please give us fewer reality TV shows and more quality programming such as A Gifted Man.
My husband and I both watched Gifted man every week Please bring it back on the air real soon ,it is a very good show ,it shows people helping others and that is the way it should be.
It is a good show, why do you cancel good shows and keep the worse….too many reality shows, about junk and getting into bed, and showing all…..CBS you are going down the tubes….starting with Y & R, Bold, same people jumping into the same mess all the time! Really!
Really cannot the writers come up with something other than the same!!
I agree with Theresa that it is one of the better dramas on t.v. today. There are only a hand full of shows I try not to miss, and The Gifted Man was one of them. I hope you will reconsider and bring it back for a second season. How about promoting it more to draw in more viewers!!
