There are 26 letters in the alphabet but NBC’s A to Z TV show only lasted five episodes before being cancelled. The peacock network has decided not to order any more installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
A to Z follows the story of Andrew (Ben Feldman) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti) — two young people who are very different. Their relationship shouldn’t work and yet it does. Is it true love forever or just a detour in destiny? The rest of the cast includes Christina Kirk, Henry Zebrowski, Hong Chau, Lenora Crichlow, and Katey Sagal.
Debuting on October 2nd, the series got off to a poor start with a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.79 million viewers. Viewership fell 24% in week two and the ratings kept falling every week after that. This week’s installment, opposite CBS’ returning sitcoms, hit a new low with a 0.7 in the demo and 2.49 million viewers.
Based on the numbers, it’s no surprise that NBC is cancelling A to Z. It is a bit surprising however that the show is staying in production. Eleven episodes have been shot and two more will be produced. Hopefully, the sitcom’s writer will be able to adjust the remaining scripts to bring a fitting conclusion to Andrew and Zelda’s story.
For now, NBC plans to air the eight remaining episodes. The Blacklist will take over the Thursdays at 9pm timeslot on February 5th.
Companion sitcom Bad Judge has also been cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the A to Z TV show? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled it? Would you have watched a second season?
Almost every show I have been getting into is being cancelled!!!! Not just talking about NBC either. It is really starting to piss me off!!! Does it show that some shows have to be recorded?? If recorded it is being watched!!!
“There are 24 letters in the alphabet”
last time I checked, the alphabet had 26 letters
lol That’s what I get for writing a post on a few hours of sleep.
Sad to hear A to Z was canceled I like Ben Feldman he’s very talented, loved him on Drop Dead Diva
I missed shows, but enjoyed the pilot enough to pull them up On Demand and watch the next 3 episodes. It is quirky enough to be interesting, cute (in an enjoyable way). Add in good writing and good actors and it works well. I wpuld like to see it continue. It’s nice to have the choice to watch something other than crime shows that tries each week to find more horrific ways to attack women. Figures it would be cancelled.
Please give this show a nice finish. Don’t leave us hanging please.
Despite what the first sentence of this article says, there really are 26 letters in the alphabet. As for A to Z, I was hopeful about a comedy with Cristin Milioti, but I didn’t find this show to be funny, nor did I find there to be any chemistry between the two leads. Hopefully, NBC will have something more entertaining to offer in its time slot.
I thought there were 26 letters in the alphabet…
Hmmm my keyboard only has 24 letters… last time I buy one on clearance. 😉
Which alphabet do you use? Mine has 26 letters.
Well sure, if you want to be like everybody else. lol
Disappointing show. Too many supporting characters with over-the-top behaviors. Katey Sagal’s narration grabbed the spotlight before the “stars” of the show could even get in a word. Cancelling was a good call. Looking forward to seeing what goes into this slot.
Agreed. What is it with this season’s new shows and the voice overs? I find them annoying. Especially how this one said at the beginning, “this tv show is about…” What happened to “show, don’t tell” ?
There’s 26 letters in the alphabet…
I know, typo fixed. Thanks.
Last time I looked, there were twenty-SIX (26) letters in the alphabet. D’oh! :^)
Which alphabet would that be with 24 letters? A to Z is 26 letters. Regardless, it was a great line.
It started out as 24 hours in a day then I switched to letters in the alphabet but didn’t change the number. Too much Halloween, too little sleep. 😉
LOL last time I checked there are 26 letters in the alphabet
I have a personal grudge against two letters. lol
its okay but i think it is going to be cancel soon & bad judge……
NBC had high hopes for A to Z but ratings was really the problem. Can’t believe the rom-com didn’t have a much bigger audience than it used to be.
rom-coms get lousy ratings cause they are all the same or just lame versions of some other lame rom-com that was canceled after two episodes five years before. if you have seen one, you have seen them all the format works for movies but not TV shows because the while the movie is over in two hours, the tv show has to drag the storyline out for how many years before syndication? doesn’t work. we’ve seen the movie and know how the rom-com ends, no need to wait around for five years listening to the same tired jokes that weren’t… Read more »
