A&E has been producing original scripted programs for many years with mixed success. Some have run for years while others have been dropped after one season. How are the current crop of shows doing? Which will be cancelled or renewed? We’ll have to wait and see.
Scripted A&E Network shows listed: Bates Motel, Damien, Longmire, The Returned, and Unforgettable.
Last update: Most recent ratings for Bates Motel added.
There’s lots of data that A&E execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. Here’s an updated listing of all of their recent/current primetime scripted shows.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here.
A couple of notes about these charts: These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released (usually a day or so after the broadcasts). The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
The demo numbers, which are typically most important to the broadcast networks, aren’t quite as vital to cable channels because their audiences are usually much smaller. Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
Longmire is an excellent program. Very big mistake to cancel it. Not sure of your relationship with Netflix, but hope series will be continued on either/both A&E or Netflix.
Damien has long term potential! They need to renew it for a second season! I think instead of labeling it under horror, it’s more supernatural and perhaps thriller, AND not to mention it’s supposed to pick off after the original 1976 The Omen film. AND JUST WOW. It’s terrible form when you leave a season like that. More questions than answers. Damien’s story still hasn’t been fully realized yet and I whole-heartedly believe it deserves a second season to be able to do that. Please A&E, bring back Damien!
The show that should have been left on a&e is Longmire. Longmire is one of the best shows that ever came on a&e day or night. Shows like Bates motel, the first 48 and 60 days in, is what should be cancelled and bring back Longmire!!
This is an amazing show with so much potential for a 2nd season. This thriller leaves you in suspension throughout every episode and is the best I have seen in years. I was shocked when I saw on Twitter that Damien may not continue to another season….big mistake on A&E’s part if that happens.
Damien is the only TV series that I have actually made sure to watch every week in years. Not to mention this is the first time I have ever posted anything about a TV show. I can’t believe the ratings are not through the roof- especially after the season finale. I think once the binge watchers get hold of this A&E will have to renew!
I completely feel the same way…the only show I watch religiously (pun intended) every week!!!
Damien is great. Needs time to get word out so people can binge catch up. I didn’t start with Bates Motel until season 2 due to word of mouth. This Damien storyline clearly needs a longer arc to decide. If season 2 doesn’t grow, then pull it, but clearly let the guy realize what his story is and tell some of it.
Loving Damian please give it a chance!!! It pulls you in deeper and deeper with each episode.
I see Damien and think that you should give this series a chance . It is better from episode to episode . Some series are set too fast . So I am for a continuation .
Bates is a well thought out, written, & acted show. Farmiga & Highmore play well off one another, & the show has a huge following! Ratings don’t necessarily translate into viewers, sadly, & vice versa. The shows depicts the evolution of Norman’s descent into insanity perfectly. Keep it on!!!!
I watch BATES MOTEL & it’s excellent… the story is interesting and the acting in fantastic. I can’t understand the low ratings… this is the show to watch!
Rose, I watch Bates on Netflix now catching up on a site in the UK on season 5, millions globally do the same, it’s superb, a masterpiece
