Lifetime has decided that neither of its freshman dramas are worthy of a second season. The cable channel cancelled The Protector in September and they’ve now canned Against the Wall as well.
Against the Wall stars Rachael Carpani as Abby Kowalski, a single cop who joins the Chicago department’s internal affairs division. The series’ co-stars include Andrew Walker, Brandon Quinn, Chris Johnson, Daniel Kash, James Thomas, Kathy Baker, Marisa Ramirez, Mayko Nguyen, Steve Byers, and Treat Williams.
Debuting on July 31st, the show attracted a mediocre 1.8 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, about on par with The Protector. Unfortunately, the numbers didn’t improve throughout the season. The 12th and 13th episodes (now the show’s last) aired on October 23rd. They each drew 1.4 million viewers and 0.4 demo ratings.
Lifetime recently ordered 10 more episodes of successful (and likely ending) Army Wives and also has Drop Dead Diva to help launch new shows. The cable channel has ordered The Client List, with Jennifer Love Hewitt reprising her role from the successful movie. Lifetime also has a few pilots on tap like Modern Love starring Eric Stoltz, American Housewife with Melanie Griffith, and Sworn To Secrecy, a movie and back-door pilot that stars Neve Campbell.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Against the Wall won’t be back for a second season? Why do you think the drama didn’t catch on?

NO! I really liked the show. I’m so disappointed. I would have loved to she who Abby would end up with. It was such a good show. It sucks, because I feel like no body even knew about the show. I think that Russian Dolls show was ridiculous… that needs to be cancelled if it hasn’t been already. This show had so much potential. This show needed some more spotlight. I honestly did not even know about the show until the day after the premiere…that’s saying something since I am always watching television and listening to the radio. Against the… Read more »
This breaks my heart! This was a great show with a wonderful cast and I thought the show was just coming into it’s own. It is so disappointing when you invest your time in a new show only to have it taken away. Plus I don’t like not knowing how story’s and character relationships end!!
I loved this show!
My mom and I faithfully watched every episode. I am very disappointed that it was cancelled. How about getting rid of some of the ridiculous reality shows.
My family and I just this year discovered this network as we were tired of NBC and FOX canceling all their good shows before they even had a chance to be discovered. Thought maybe a network that was looking to grow it’s viewers would be more considerate of those who watch their network and realize it’s not a major network so it will take time for great shows to catch on as people tell other people about it. I loved Against The Wall and The Protector and hoped this network had some intelligence and would allow these programs to build… Read more »
Dave, I would try sending your email to nancy.dubuc@aetn.com. She is really the person behind the cancellation of this show!
I love that you mention NBC and Fox canceling all of the good shows that don’t even get time or proper promotion to gain attention. Like Outsourced and Better Off Ted. It sucks that they cancel all the good shows. And I think it was last year, Lifetime had a show called The Deep End… as soon as I found out about the show and started to fall in love, it was cancelled… so sad
I enjoy quality drama and Against the Wall was an excellent program. It even made me look at Internal Affairs in a different light. I understand that it’s all about ratings, but I rarely watch reality TV and hate to see this show cancelled.
BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER CANCELING AGAINST THE WALL!
Tell me about!
I just discovered this network and we loved the 2 programs that brought us to this network and now they have canceled them without giving them a honest chance. Against The Wall was a family favorite wit protector right behind it now we are done with this network. For a second rate or maybe even lower rate network if they expect to gain loyale viewers they need to give great programming a chance. Unfortunately this network seems to provide no way if giving them true feedback to there stupidity on there website. I hope that someone from this network will… Read more »
I think the SUNDAY 10 pm timeslot was the issue. I had to keep recording Against The Wall on it’s 12 am or 1 am reair. I really liked the show, and am somwhat bothered that there won’t be an end to her story.
I really liked the show and the cast. I thought it was cute and had great potential to develop all the characters. I can’t believe the networks bombards us with terrible reality TV shows and then cancels anything that has the slight possibility to entertain us. Why pay for cable when all they show are unrealistic reality TV that basically consists of people with bad behavior….who get paid for it. Really disappointed.
I really enjoyed watching Against the Wall. I think Lifetime thinks more people will watch America’s Supernanny, Dance Moms, and Russian Dolls which are all reality show.
I can’t stand reality shows.
I tried to leave a comment to Lifetime but the e-mail came back as undeliverable. I guess they don’t want to hear what the people think about the shows on their channel.
I am very upset the show won’t be back and won’t be watching Lifetime anymore.
This is the worse news ever. And now we don’t get closure. Who was at the door. Seriously, there was definitely reason for a season 2. Love that show!
I loved the show!!! I am very upset the show will not be back on! Lifetime gave them a bad time spot and has made a huge mistake but cutting the show!
Against the wall was a really charming show. Maybe it just didn’t get enough attention. Wish I could tell them they made a mistake. ATW had potential!!!!!!!
I really liked the show.
