NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
Great show. The real reason it’s getting pulled is NBC is afraid of Russia!
I agree with you.
Love this show!!! Can’t believe they are taking if off!
Great show crammed into an untenable timeslot. Networks keep putting great shows up against juggernauts and then punish the show for their decision. This happened to “Forever” as well. Great show that died an early death because they put it up against NCIS.
Wow, I didnt’ know that they cancelled Forever too?
Forever is better than Sherlock Holmes.
I don’t think Forever has officially been cancelled but everything I have read gives it little hope of renewal.
We love this show!! It’s such a shame to see it go..Well written..not all full of sex…just a good suspenseful show. We want more Allegiance!!
Only able to see to 106 episode on Demand….. Pissed
You should fight it. Episodes 7-11 have been the best hours on all of TV, IMO.
Really good show. The premier episode was fantastic. Hard to believe the ratings were poor. I think they should look for a different time slot and air the remaining shows. Maybe it will do better.
Episode 11 of Allegiance was great. So much happened. Sam learns the truth from Alex and they kill the mole, Agent Farber. Looks like they are moving to stopping the Black Dagger on the last Episode, #13.
I hope they are keeping track of the people going out of their way to watch on Comcast “On Demand” despite no advertising. The thing is, I much most of my programming “On Demand”, because I can rewind key spots.
I agree with Jerry25. Time Warner is kind of slow with OnDemand, but I watched last night on HULU. I DVR every show I like so I can go back for more info. Is a shame Allegiance is gone. Maybe the idea of crushing Soviet Agents is too political incorrect to show on american tv, or for us americans to enjoy this kind of shows. Like Fox Mulder will say “The truth is out there”. For now I am not watching any new NBC shows.
They need to put back Allegiance. It was a good show.
These networks need to revamp how they get their numbers. They don’t give shows a chance. Also off topic networks drive me nuts being inconsistent on airing shows. Really never know when new episodes come on. I have actually forgot about new shows because they air a couple then its gone for a month until they air another. Ridiculous.
I love the wonderful program called “Allegiance”. It is one of very few programs I really like. I am very disappointed to hear that it has been cancelled. What a shame. It was a very bad decision for you to take it off the air, especially when it was right in the middle of the series. I hope you will finish this series and I also hope you will continue it on for another season. It is a very good program. I love the actors. They portray their parts very well and are very believable. I ask that you will… Read more »
They should have started it Monday night after The Voice like they did at the beginning of the blacklist. Then it would have a large audience and then move it. I loved this show. The slap is so pathetic…. how do you replace a good show w something so dumb? It has just as bad ratings…
I typically am not a tv watcher, but I saw Allegiance just by chance and fell in love! Great acting, great plot and it keeps getting better. I continue to watch it online in hopes that NBC will give it another chance. There are many shows on NBC that I believe are “garbage”, yet they promote these shows. Thursday night is a tough night for tv, they said…we’ll let Allegiance air on another night. There are 6 other in the week and several time slots to consider. NBC I implore you to reconsider. You were onto something good with this… Read more »
Bring it back!!! Don’t leave us hangin!! I hate when NBC does this!!!
allegiance was a great new show.
Wil be very missed by this household!
Quality and popularity hardly ever go hand in hand. A television series can be of significantly high quality and have a poor audience rating simply because it does not appeal to the lowest common denominator. The reverse is also true. There is a large number of poor series shown on television. It seems these series, typically so-called reality television, draw a large audience because of a strong appeal to the lowest common denominator. Allegiance, a series that fitted into the former category rather than the latter, has been cancelled simply because it did not appeal to enough people in the… Read more »
You and others are giving NBC too much credit. The show would have HUGE appeal – similar The Blacklist, if only it was promoted properly, had a good time slot, and if they got people to get past the first 3-4 episodes. I’ve now seen through the 11th show, and its easily the best (not just my opinion) suspense show on TV – Partly because they are moving the plot along quickly, so it can come to a conclusion in 2 more episodes. I’m not even sure that this show was completely cancelled. Maybe they just stopped it so that… Read more »
