BBC AMERICA COMMISSIONS FIRST ORIGINAL COMEDY SERIES “ALMOST ROYAL”
New York – March 25, 2014 – BBC AMERICA has commissioned its first original comedy series Almost Royal, a tale of two young British aristocrats on their first trip to the United States – interacting with real-life Americans. The (7×30) series is produced by Burning Bright Productions with Clive Tulloh (Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man, The Dame Edna Treatment, High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman) as executive producer and Seamus Murphy-Mitchell (Bug, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross) as series producer. Almost Royal premieres Saturday, June 21, 10:00pm ET following the Orphan Black season two finale.
Georgie (Ed Gamble) and Poppy Carlton (Amy Hoggart) are heirs to Caunty Manor, a large country estate in Norfolk, England, where they have enjoyed privileged lives as distant descendants of the British Royal Family. They have agreed to have a camera crew follow them on an unofficial royal tour of the greatest country on earth – the United States of America. While also commemorating their late father, Lord Carlton, the road trip will provide the sheltered siblings with an opportunity to spread their wings and see the world. Georgie and Poppy have never worked a day in their lives, driven themselves anywhere or solved any problem more complex than telling their butler to tell their cook what they want for lunch.
Georgie Carlton is the most affable man one could meet. He’s using the trip around America as a way to become more “manly” in order to take on the responsibilities of Caunty Manor and live up to his Father’s legacy.
Poppy Carlton is looking forward to raising her profile on the trip around America. She has high hopes of finding fame as a pop star/actor/author/lifestyle guru/cookery presenter. Poppy has all of the self-delusion required to find fame without having a scrap of talent.
Almost Royal is a BBC AMERICA original series produced by Burning Bright Productions and distributed by BBC Worldwide. The series is directed by Chris Faith (Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show) and Marcus Liversedge (The Only Way is Essex). BBC AMERICA’s slate of British comedies has included Absolutely Fabulous, Twenty Twelve, The Inbetweeners, The Thick of It and The Office.

What do you think? Do you plan on checking out Almost Royal? Does it sound like a hit?
Absolutely the funniest show we’ve had the pleasure of watching in a long time.
Thank you BBC Looking forward to more episodes. loved it,loved it,loved it.
I love this show! they are so silly.
It is brilliant! Even when I realized they were actors, I still found it highly entertaining!
this is a brilliant show – Poppy’s adorable looniness is totally funny and I wish her the best in whatever fantasy ocuppation she lands herself in sans one bit of actual proclivity to said occupation…she steals your heart! Georgie is blissfully uaware of hardly any realities and as such should be a perfect fit for the crown should, god forbid, a giant disaster overtake the royals and his number comes up to lead the island. This show is sooo clever – makes fun of the Brits and of us – all at the same time!
Best show on television!!! Genius! Creative & fall-on-the-floor hilarious! I want this show to stay on for years! Poppy & Georgie are so lovable & incredibly talented! Love this show! All my friends love it too!!!
These 2 kids are quick on their feet!
Great improve.
I love it.
I agree about the great improv….quick wits!
I think it’s genius and they should come to the Az. So we can show them the awesomeness and the real heat of the great American west
Almost Royale, interesting but inane. It reinforces the stereotype most of us have about British Lords and Lady’s . Even though my Great Grand Mother hailed from Kinsington I find it somewhat absurd.
I hope you meant Kensington. It’s called humor something that American tv often lacks 🙂
I have never laughed at any tv show, as hard as I laugh at this. Maybe its cathartic: I’ve known people like this, and at the time, i wasn’t able to point and laugh, so all that pent up annoyance is coming out now. Or, maybe, it’s because it’s such brilliantly done satire. I don’t know. But I laugh, quite loudly, through the whole show.
I hope it runs for a couple of seasons, at least. I desperately want to see these people at ComicCon, a ren faire, and at a theme park.
Agreed! 100%! I laugh out loud, so loud! I hope this show stays on for years!
What a stupid show! I cannot believe that this is what the BBCA thinks we want to watch. BRING BACK COPPER!!!!!
Very amusing. The British humor is so tongue in cheek. I am looking forward to seeing these two incredibly entertaining actors in upcoming episodes. Poppy plays a vapid, self centered young Royal to perfection and Georgie is a very engaging snob. Give me more!
Wow, I was actually looking forward to this, the girl looked stupid as hell in the previews, I was thinking they really WERE two British nobles or whatever who were snobby idiots that didn’t know anything about the world……. here I was thinking this show was going to be hilarious. Then tonight I see pages like this and IMBD where it shows their real names, **** are they even British??? lol The whole show is a fake…… hey BBC, here’s a hint. When you put on a reality tv show, it’s usually based on REALITY. Well….. I won’t be bothering… Read more »
I watched the “sneak” preview on Comcast Demand and I could not stop laughing. This show is great and I so look forward to watching all of the programs. I can hardly wait to watch the next show.
Definitely! We are huge fans of BBC America, and of British comedy, so we’re looking forward to this show.
Are these two really this Stupid?? Every time I see the commercial the answer to me is yes yes !!!
