Though AMC has had some popular scripted series that have run for years, many others have been cancelled after just one season. How is the current crop of shows doing? Which will be cancelled or renewed? We’ll have to wait and see.
Scripted AMC Network shows listed: 61st Street, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, The Beast Must Die, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Dark Winds, Dietland, A Discovery of Witches, Dispatches from Elsewhere, Fear the Walking Dead, Feed the Beast, Halt and Catch Fire, Hell on Wheels, Humans, Into the Badlands, Kevin Can F**k Himself, Killing Eve, Lodge 49, Low Winter Sun, Lucky Hank, Mad Men, McMafia, The Night Manager, NOS4A2, Parish, Preacher, The Son, Soulmates, Tales of the Walking Dead, The Terror, Turn: Washington’s Spies, The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
Last update: Most recent ratings added for Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.
There’s lots of data that AMC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. Here’s an updated listing of all of their recent/current primetime scripted shows.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released (usually a day or so after the broadcasts). The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
The demo numbers, which are typically most important to the broadcast networks, aren’t quite as vital to cable channels because their audiences are usually much smaller. Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
I watch The Walking Dead, it is a good show, but what i love the most is the Westerns showing on Saturday Mornings. It is the only time I ask the kids to leave me in peace to watch Rawhide(when it was on), The Rifleman, these were the shows of my younger days. I understand that the younger people have different tastes in shows, however, the largest population is still the baby boomers, and will be for some time to come yet.
Since I don’t fit into the 18-49 Demographic what I watch apparently has no import to this chart. I must be one of the Walking Dead, demographically speaking.
Total viewers are as much of an important demographic for cable networks as the ratings. Cable TV Networks want to get or stay on the basic packages and they do that by attracting viewers. When the carriage contracts are being renegotiated, having a show that averages 8 million viewers is their bully stick with the cable and satellite companies.
Ratings is where each advertiser is the customer. Total viewers is where each viewer is the customer.
Wow,TWD gets better numbers than Breaking Bad,Mad Men,Turn and Saul COMBINED
I watch Hell on Wheels and love it! I don”t fit he profile of 18 – 49 and neither do thousands of others. I missed first season completely, because it wasn’t advertized. Wake up! People over the age of 49 probably watch much more TV than an 18-24 year old college student and probably has more money to purchase products from your sponsors. Who decided 49 was the cut off? When that group of people turn (no pun intended) 49 ask if they have stopped watching TV or ran out of money. Turn, is a fabulous show as well. I… Read more »
it is the advertisers who think people over 49 are set in their ways and wont buy anything different, they will buy whatever they always have.
People under 18 are also excluded !
Halt and catch fire has THE LOWEST ratings but is being renewed. Imho because of lee pace and his complicated character that Hollywood will love and give an Emmy. Stinks that shows tht are most popular are ignored. Andrew Lincoln has done a great job with some tear jerker performances. He deserves an emmy as does Melissa for supporting role. Hollywood is like govt.no one cares what the people think. I think part of the problem is the walking dead unites us in a common bond against a threat affecting everyone. Hollywood likes more pc themes that no one watchs.… Read more »
Desde México por favor no cancelen hell on wheels es muy buena soy fan de las series de AMC por que son realistas y las historias son fuertes y contundentes y eso lo aprecio mucho
Hell On Wheels has the best ratings of any scripted show on AMC, except for The Walking Dead. Where’s the appreciation from AMC? The ratings are over 3 million in +3 DVR counts. Renew for Season 5 ASAP
Hell on Wheels gets no publicity from AMC. Why is that? NO cast member’s personal appearances on popular interview shows. No great trailers throughout the week with the amazing theme music leading to show night. It has great acting, great scripts and courageous characters. Why is it treated like an ugly step-child when it’s pulling a more than 2 M + audience in the revered 18-49 crowd. Don’t the 49+ count for anything on AMC? Try poling the group that has the disposable income who just might buy some products. Season 4 is guaranteed to end with a bang. Hopefully,… Read more »
Hell on Wheels and Walking Dead are the only shows I watch. I am extremely annoyed that the age range for ratings is 18-49. It is the over 49 year olds who are watching the most!!!!!! We are the ones who miss westerns from our youth! We are the ones who grew up with Clint Eastwood westerns!! I hope they don’t cancel it. It is a show for people who enjoy using their brains and don’t want to predict what will happen next.
Lol. They were asking for commentors but said my demographic was full, over 49. The younger demo does all the buying ,therefore, their voice is more valued. Hell i know plenty of over 60 who watch. Id like to collect TWD figures but im too old. Idk maybe i will. I would love rick, carl, darryl,Michonne and the governor to start.oh and Glen and Maggie, kind of my favs on the theres still hope theme. Idt there is but they are the bright spot. Im very afraid for Judith. How long can they protect her ? I love having her for Rick but… Read more »
Keep Hell On Wheels….It is an Awesome Show….Please Do Not Cancel It!!!
I love watching Hell on Wheels and think the railroad growth tying everything together is awesome. Hope that road NEVER gets done 😉
Lol. It is but i wasnt crazy abt last night. Pretty unrealistic .i love turn but TWD is the only show i cant miss. All others can be watched at a later date. I watch dwts based on the stars. This yr Sadie and Alfonso are keeping the ratings up. Im not crazy abt duck dynasty but i love the people. They get 12 million viewers. ,so their fans are watching Dwts. If Sadie is eliminated i probably wont watch. Im anxious for twd companion show. Will it come close to the original? I laugh at other stations trying to… Read more »
HoW is in my top ten shows. I think HoW should be nominated for some Emmys. But there’s no nudity and no F-bombs, so it won’t be.
Lee Pace is excellent in Halt & Catch Fire.
Hell on Wheels is the ONLY show I watch on AMC. All the actors do a great job, and I am a dedicated viewer, even with all the COUNTLESS commercials !
Ditto
I love watching HELL ON WHEELS and wish it will go on forever. ANSON MOUNT is geart in the title role. If and when you cancell the show be sure you find another show with him in the lead role. A WESTERN show, as a good guy of course? Thank you, PAUL
I love WALKING DEAD, HELL ON WHEELS & TURN. And watched BREAKING BAD when it was on. They do have great shows.
My problem w/AMC? I’ve signed up for their newletters and program info more time than I can count and have yet to get ANY information from them. Yes, I’ve also written to many times to tell them as much. Anyone else have this problem?
