It’s pretty rare that a TV show that’s launched very late in the season becomes a success in the ratings. Could American Odyssey on NBC be an exception? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season instead?
On the American Odyssey TV show, an international cover-up explodes when the lives of a female Special Forces soldier, a disillusioned corporate lawyer, and a political activist from a privileged family unexpectedly collide. The cast includes Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Jim True-Frost, Sadie Sink, Omar Ghazaoui, Nate Mooney, Elena Kampouris, Daniella Pineda, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Treat Williams.
The series debuted on April 4th to a 1.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.37 million total viewers. That was a very poor premiere but the ratings got much worse in week two, dropping more than 24%, to a 0.81 rating in the demo and 4.05 million.
The ratings for American Odyssey then plunged again in week three, falling to a 0.52 rating with 3.11 million. Last week’s episode held pretty steady in the demo but dropped another 10% in viewership.
Unless the numbers take a stunning change of course quickly, there’s little question that NBC will cancel this TV show. The ratings are just too terrible to justify a second season.
At this point, the real question is if the network will pull American Odyssey from the schedule before all of the remaining eight episodes have aired. They could go either way.
NBC cancelled and pulled low-rated Allegiance from the Thursday night schedule after five episodes but released the eight unaired installments online. Conversely, they let the remaining episodes of The Slap mini-series air. We’ll have to wait and see what they do.
But, what do you think? Do you like the American Odyssey TV show? Why is it performing so poorly? If you ran the network, would you cancel or renew this series for a second season?
Renew,, renew, renew! A very plausible storyline (s). Has one on the edge of their seats every week.
Actually a very good, well done show. The problem is the time slot! They put it up against the last season of Mad Men,Veep, Revenge. I watch it on Demand and I thoroughly enjoy it. Change the time slot and renew.
Love american oddessey. Hope there is a second season. NBC has a winning shcedule on Sunday beginning with AD. & then American Ofdessey
This I find very entriging, please show all episodes thanks
I love it, please keep it on.
We’re liking it a lot, would be very sorry to see it canceled…especially if they don’t even air the full Season 1! But as pretty much EVERY aspect of American life is dominated and managed by the only-profit-matters shark elite (as implied by the show itself) we won’t be surprised to see it go:(
Look forward to it every week.
It’s a really good show, however it’s up against many solidified Sunday night favs. Viewers have the last season of Mad Men, Season 5 of Game of Thrones, etc. to choose from. Also, the 10pm slot is not that tempting for early Monday risers. NBC should give it another shot, however consider changing the day and/or time it shows.
I love it. Renew for season 2!
Love it. It is relevent to today’s world situation.
I like it a lot. So many shows have gotten cancelled or a lot good characters have been “killed” off lately. Give it a chance, please.
Love it.
I found the pilot episode to be very confusing with so many characters and sub-plots, but have since grown to love the show. Great plot! I’d like to see it for another season, but if they pull the plug, I hope that they’ll give it a good ending rather than just leave us hanging like the networks seem to do so much of the time.
Love it!! Please renew!
I only watched 10 minutes of the show. It looks good, but maybe NBC cancels the show after 5 episodes like it did with Allegiance. I will give it a try in Hulu. Don’t like when the network cancels the show I like
First off in case you haven’t caught on yet……Don’t give NBC programs a shot until you hear they’ve renewed it. A lot of us quit watching new shows on NBC because they don’t do enough to promote after the pilots, and then they throw in the towel right away before trying to make something work. Granted that increases the probability that the show will flame out, but they’ve brought it on themselves by tossing out so many new shows without giving them a chance. Sienfield didn’t do all that well its first season, but someone was smart enough to see… Read more »
Great show but so was Alligence. Please give this one a chance and don’t cancel.
