American Ripper is coming to History Channel next month. The eight-episode series will premiere on July 11.
History released a press statement about the new series. Check that out below.
“In HISTORY’s new eight-part limited series American Ripper, the great-great-grandson of serial killer, H.H. Holmes, Jeff Mudgett is determined to prove an astonishing, controversial theory: that H.H. Holmes and Britain’s notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper, were the same man. Herman Mudgett, alias H.H. Holmes, was America’s first serial killer rumored to have claimed as many as 200 lives in the late 19th century. Simultaneously, an unidentified murderer known as Jack the Ripper was terrorizing the streets of London. Mudgett leads an investigation that secured permission to exhume the presumed body of H.H. Holmes for DNA testing to determine whether he pulled off the ultimate con, escaping his own execution to lead a second secret life. American Ripper premieres on Tuesday, July 11 at 10PM ET/PT.
From the moment 20 years ago when Mudgett’s world was shaken at the revelation that he was the descendant of H.H. Holmes, he became obsessed with acquiring information about his ancestor. Through extensive research, he began to believe the bold theory that Holmes was also Ripper. Now, the retired attorney has partnered with former CIA criminologist, Amaryllis Fox, who has spent her career identifying terrorists across the globe, to launch a deeper investigation.
Forensic science was at its infancy in the 1800s, leaving countless unanswered questions throughout the timeline of these killing sprees. American Ripper hunts down evidence to prove a link between these two monstrous men including: Holmes’ personal copy of his published memoir, housed at the Library of Congress; clues about his earliest victims in Holmes’ hometown and childhood home in Gilmanton, N.H.; crime scene evidence from the Jack the Ripper murders including photos, eyewitness accounts and coroners’ reports; new interviews with numerous historians and detectives; and new leads in the search for long-lost remains of Holmes’ many victims.
American Ripper is produced for HISTORY by Magilla Entertainment. Matthew Ostrom, Laura Palumbo Johnson and Jason Fox are executive producers for Magilla Entertainment. Kristen Burns and Sean Boyle are executive producers for HISTORY.
A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights for American Ripper.”
Will you watch this new series? Tell us what you think.
Please bring it back I want more I’ve learned a lot about the history of the ripper and HH Holmes since watching the US and I think they are open to something and what about the river and I think the concrete block to see anybody ever check to see if they were bodies that was never say it on the show
I loved it but I want to see more still need answers like what’s in the river don’t leave us hanging
Liked the series but want more! When will it be back on?
Loved the series. Especially since my grandparents lived on or near 63rd St. and I remember visiting several times. Hope they continue and wonder why the Chgo PD isn’t looking into the cement blocks in the river???
I watched all of American Ripper and loved it! Very intriguing to think Holmes was The Ripper. After watching, I believe Jeff Mudgett is correct about his GGGrandfather. Will the series come back with new evidence? I know Holmes really was in his grave but would like to hear more evidence. Especially about the bodies that ‘might’ be in the Chicago river, encased in cement.
I’m a history buff and because of the timeline I’ve always said HH Holmes was Jack the Ripper so I’m very intrigued by this show!!
Can’t wait!!! It’s so amazing how forensics have been the perfect example of how a lie, or absence of truth and detail, will always come to light in the end; even if it’s more than hundreds, thousands or more years ago! Keeping history alive, telling the STORYof the DNA…. makes the science, people, experience, education and technology come to life through no better way – than visually! Keep up the great work – ❤️ It!!!!
Yes, anxiously looking forward to it but I also take anything shown by the History Channel with a grain of salt. Maybe I’ll change my mind after watching this, but I doubt very much if Mudgett was Jack the Ripper. Modus Operandi too different, IMO.
I’m really looking forward to this one!
