It’s the end of the world as we know it. Sky has cancelled the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV series after its first season. The British-American sitcom airs on NBC, stateside.
Season one ends after the meteor hits earth. The survivors, played by stars including Mathew Baynton, Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg, and Joel Fry, are ensconced in an underground bunker. Baynton was ready to tell the post-apocalyptic story, but Sky is letting the first and only season stand on its own.
Radio Times reports that Sky has decided against a second season of the show, for the narrative’s sake, which is rather refreshing. Here are the details:
“A story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back and has reached its natural conclusion,” the broadcaster told RadioTimes.com.
“The news that a comet was on a unavoidable collision course towards earth triggered a joyous, fun, 34 day dramatic countdown to the end of the world in You, Me and the Apocalypse. Our cast of characters did things they never believed they would do and gave us a show that was loved by critics and the audience alike.
“We thank the entire creative team, cast and everyone working at Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International Studios”.
What do you think? Do you wish the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV show had been renewed for a second season, or do you think Sky did the right thing? Let us know. (I feel fine.)
This was an awesome show! Bring it back!
It was too weird to live.
I absolutely loved this brilliantly confusing British comedy-drama-what-the-heck-is-this-thing? Father Jude dying is completely unacceptable and Jamie dying after working so hard to save his family – come on! Cut us a break! We need a season two – it doesn’t have to all be in the bunker.
My husband was all set to watch and realized there was nothing worth watching after Jeopardy. When I looked online and read him the fate of the show he was in disbelief. Please bring it back!
The way season 1 ended the viewer was led to believe there was more to come. The story obviously has to continue.
It seems strange to end it after season 1 when so many questions were left unanswered. Who is in the box? Does Jamie and/or Rajesh get saved? How is Jamie the “blessed one?” Or is it Celine’s and Jude’s baby? To say it reached a natural conclusion is absurd.
omg yes the chick in the box. And then what really happened with Jude, his twin siblings & their parents. Jude said his father’s death was a suicide & he never mentioned his mother at all. And who killed Jude, there is noooo way he killed himself. And why was he killed?
So enjoyed this show and I am bummed to hear it is not coming back. I watch very little tv but found myself DVR-ing this and looking forward to every episode. Please bring it back!
Terrible decision by Sky to cancel it.
Why is it that some idiot in a leather chair always makes decisions based on the beans he sees, in not the beans yet to sprout.
This was a great program, and as others have mentioned, created a formula, as opposed to just following one.
Well, off to fine something else. 🙁
Quite possibly one of the most original, funniest, gripping, emotional shows to come out in quite a while. Oh, I forgot clever, intelligent, thought-provoking. Of course NBC canceled it. This is the exact reason I stay away from the national broadcast channels for the most part. Anything that’s a little edgy in a little bit off-center usually won’t last no matter how many people like it or how good it is.
This was the most brilliant series on TV – sometimes hilarious, always surprising and thought-provoking. We really cared about the characters and we NEED to know how it turns out. Please, please don’t end with all of these loose threads!
Insane. It was the best thing on television.
Yes, Yes, Yes to season two!!! My son and I really enjoyed this series and the ending makes us believe that there would be a season two. Please re-think this.
This was my favorite new show of the season. A quirky and unique plot and cast of characters. I am disappointed to hear it will not be back.
We just started watching this show “on demand” from Comcast. We have watched 3 episodes and we can’t get enough and planned to watch the rest of the episodes this weekend. It is a quirky fun show…too many unanswered questions if it is gone. We can’t watch anymore pawn shops, picking, or car restorations…just saying.
Im obsessed with this show! I NEED a season 2!!!
