It’s the end of the world as we know it. Sky has cancelled the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV series after its first season. The British-American sitcom airs on NBC, stateside.
Season one ends after the meteor hits earth. The survivors, played by stars including Mathew Baynton, Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg, and Joel Fry, are ensconced in an underground bunker. Baynton was ready to tell the post-apocalyptic story, but Sky is letting the first and only season stand on its own.
Radio Times reports that Sky has decided against a second season of the show, for the narrative’s sake, which is rather refreshing. Here are the details:
“A story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back and has reached its natural conclusion,” the broadcaster told RadioTimes.com.
“The news that a comet was on a unavoidable collision course towards earth triggered a joyous, fun, 34 day dramatic countdown to the end of the world in You, Me and the Apocalypse. Our cast of characters did things they never believed they would do and gave us a show that was loved by critics and the audience alike.
“We thank the entire creative team, cast and everyone working at Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International Studios”.
What do you think? Do you wish the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV show had been renewed for a second season, or do you think Sky did the right thing? Let us know. (I feel fine.)
That Sucks, if they wanted to end the series on season one they should have finished the story instead of setting up series two.
Stop being LAZY & get back to writing! Loved the show & want more.
I’m not happy that Ariel ended up in the bunker. That was not a good ending.
They are serious douches for thinking that the ending was at all enough. It was set up for a second season and they pissed on my dreams.
I wish they would have more seasons! This is a terrific show. I never knew it was on. We caught it on demand
This was an excellent show – quite funny and a little (maybe more than a little) irreverent. Few shows are so entertaining and it is a shame that networks are unwilling to give those shows that are quirky or unusual a chance to attract viewers before cancellation. I didn’t get a chance to see this show when it was first broadcast– don’t even remember seeing anything about it– but I thoroughly enjoyed it when watching “on demand”. I definitely hope Sky rethinks their decision.
Please do the smart thing and bring back YMATA
Please please please! This is the best show in a long time, season 2!!!
If you wanted to let it end for “narratives sake” then you shouldn’t have had Jaime be stuck outside. That just leaves us wanting more. So many good shows end like this just to bee replaced by junk. I was looking forward to see what happens in the past apocalyptic bunker/world. Not to to mention the other bunker full of women in America.
this sucks i want to see the continuation of the bunker and what happen to Jaime, somebody else do the second season!!!!!!!
Another brilliant move by NBC. Thanks guys!
I appreciate the whole wanting to step back an let it ride. some shows should’ve done that like scrubs season 9. I really appreciated the story an characters it can definitely hold another season, in total…SEASON 2 PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!!!!
I can appreciate ending it for the narrative’s sake – if that’s really true. But I could have definitely stood a season or so of how things worked out in the bunker(s).
If nothing else, how about a 2 hour movie to give the story a finale?
a little bit of my soul just died.
