There won’t be any more Ascension, at least on Syfy. The cable channel has told Deadline that, “We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”
Airing in December 2014, Ascension follows an alternate reality in which, in 1963, President Kennedy and the government sent 600 volunteers (men, women, and children) into space on a century-long voyage aboard a self-sustaining generation ship. The cast includes Tricia Helfer, Gil Bellows, Brian Van Holt, Andrea Roth, Brandon P. Bell, Jacqueline Byers, Tiffany Lonsdale, and P.J. Boudousqué.
When Syfy ordered the six hour episodes of Ascension last year, the plan was to make it a regular series if the mini-series was successful enough — ala Battlestar Galactica. The ratings were okay but certainly nothing to write home about.
It’s unclear if the producers will try to find a home for Ascension elsewhere.
What do you think? Did you like the Ascension series? Would you have watched it as a regular weekly TV show?
yes I would watch ascension as a weekly series. I want to find out how it unfolds.
i would be more than happy to watch another season of ascension. it was very entertaining
and i was really looking forward to seeing it again. hopefully it will be on tv soon
you should be more interested in what your viewers like to watch.
I finally found a good TV show to watch on netflix again after running out of fresh new material and then I realize that episode 6 was the last episode…. PLEASE make a season two and continue on this TV show it is amazing and I can’t see why it wouldn’t do well.
I would love to see Netflix pick this up, but I have better odds of becoming president. This is a great show and would love to see it wrapped up in one or two more seasons.
We loved the series. Watched it on syfy. Would loved to see a second series.
Solid show. I liked it a lot. I specifically enjoyed the show’s unique premise and I loved that the plot’s trajectory was unpredictable. Id like to see more of it in any format.
Just saw this on Netflix. Would be such a waste of an amazing show and talent if they can’t find a home for it.
In other words, no one watches Syfy. And Syfy is horrible, which is why no one is seeing this show until now, when it appeared on Netflix….because Syfy is dumb and irrelevant.
Would be even better if it was a Netflix series. Hope this isn’t the end!
Here’s what I did. I went to https://help.netflix.com/help and got on the chat line to NETFLIX
and expressed my opinion about the show . the show was put out by SCI FI channel but if there’s a buzz maybe NETFLIX will pass it on to SCI FI or maybe NETFLIX and SCI FI possible could collaborate
Scyfy does this all the time. They create a great show, then cancel it. Same has Caprica.
Caprica was universally awful. There was simply nothing redeeming about it. It should have been canceled after the pilot without it ever being aired. I’m not sure holding that cancelation up as an earlier example of a bad syfy decision helps the case for this show.
id watch this I love this show syfy is dumb for canceling this and they shouldn’t expect ppl to pay for their channel. If they were smart they’d merge w Netflix
Loved it. Want more
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make season 2 of Accesnsion!!! I’m a huge fan of this show and would love to see what happens next!
Excellent show. There needs to be a season 2 or more. Just finished watching it on Netflix and from the first episode I was hooked. SyFy needs to do a better job of finishing shows like this. It’s not the first show like this they’ve canceled and every one I’ve talked so far has only given this show great reviews. I don’t understand?? I was reading several comments and I agree Netflix should definitely pick this show up!
Overall a solid production. Definitely better than most TV fare. I’d easily keep watching the show if it were made into a series.
Half of you people replying are ridiculous. You blame SyFy for the cancellation but you all watched it on Netflix after it was cancelled. It was moved to Netflix for cheap after the cancellation to recover costs. Blaming the network for something you didn’t watch when it was released is laughable. SyFy has released plenty of good shows in the past decade all of which get cancelled because none of you cheap ass ass sci-fi fans pay to have access to the channel and want it for free. Yet magically most of you are in the same technology sector I… Read more »
You’re an idiot. And so are many execs. Netflix actually validates a good series.
Netflix has made maybe one decent sci-fi show? Their largest budget show as far as CGI goes (marco polo) was a total flop, good luck on season two for that ****. House of cards is great but uses far less CGI than a regualr scifi show and all the budget goes to the main actors. Orange is the new black? That show is probably nearly as cheap as a reality show considering the sparse enthronements. Daredevil was decent but still pretty lame. Netflix might ‘validate’ a good serious but they don’t resurrect good series. Who gives a crap about validation,… Read more »
I enjoyed this show and would love to see a season 2. And yes, I am guilty of watching this on Netflix, but you fail to realize Sean, that many of us are part of a growing population of cable cutters. I no longer have or wish to pay outrageous fees to have cable television in my house. Instead of paying $100+ each month, I can sit and watch TV, commercial free, for $26 a month with Neflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime. With cutting cable, my phone line and a couple other changes, I am saving over $2000 a… Read more »
Cord cutter or not, it doesn’t matter. Yes it’d be great if there was an a al carte system for cable instead of useless packages but there isn’t, yet. It doesn’t change the fact that people have to get paid to make shows. I want everything cheap as well, who doesn’t, but you have to be realistic with expectations. Netflix is already talking about raising their price, Hulu Plus is a joke. How were you paying 200 dollars a month for basic cable? I live in the USA with comcast and pay half that for 125mbs down, 50mbs up and… Read more »
Netflix please pick this show up
