Rainn Wilson had a long run on NBC’s The Office but his own TV series Backstrom has been cut short. FOX has cancelled the series after one season of 13 episodes.
On Backstrom, an offensive, irascible yet brilliant detective (Wilson) is brought back from exile to run Portland Police Bureau’s Special Crimes Unit. The rest of the cast includes Genevieve Angelson, Dennis Haysbert, Kristoffer Polaha, Page Kennedy, Beatrice Rosen, and Thomas Dekker.
The show debuted in late January to a decent 1.95 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.98 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers took a big dive in episode two with the ratings falling more that 30%. They fell almost as much again in week three. After a brief rebound, the numbers kept sinking lower and lower.
The 13th and (now) final episode drew a 0.7 in the demo with 2.8 million viewers. The ratings were just too low to justify a second season.

The networks dont give the good series a chance to develope an audience,..if the mentality was the same in the 90’s as it is now the following shows would never have made it because the execs hated them and their pilots didnt do well

Fox seriously needs to stop cancelling shows after one season. My husband and I are so tired of the reality crap like American idol they continuously renew year after year. Besides this show, we love watching Brooklyn Nine Nine and Sleepy Hollow. Backstrom has an interesting story line and the diversity of all the characters is entertaining to watch them work together. Please renew this show!

Backstrom was only one of the few shows I watch anymore. Please bring it back. My husband and I looked forward to each episode.
i miss backstrom already. please bring it back. the characters are great, they need to be further develop. i would love to know all their characters more, their backstories, how they eventually end up together, and more…
Why is it the we finally get a decent TV show and they never seem to last..Backstrom was a breathe of fresh air compaired to the drivel they shove down our throats year after year.

I love Backstrom! I have no idea why it got so low views I really think it should be brought back and season two should be made and aired! The whole thing is creative and emotional and though it’s the whole classic detective thing it’s got a different flare and I honestly hope they bring it back pleeeeeaaaaaasssssssseeeeeee

This news is very disappointing …Backstrom was so different from all other crime drama, it brought a glimpse of dark humour into our lives…FOX you are making a HUGE mistake…I really hope you reconsider

This is complete bull ****! You are making a HUGE mistake cancelling this show…You honestly have no idea how many different people are loving this show! MY 60 year old mother got me into this series, I’m 33 and LOVE it….Rain Wilson is brilliant …..please please please keep this show going!!!!!!
You know, the show was slow to start but once you got to that last episode, you fell in love with Everett and his half brother Valentine. You could see the dysfunction that blue caused in his kids lives. The season ended so heartbreaking and I thought I would see what happened to Everett but… I guess we won’t know now. Hopefully this becomes revived like arrested development, even though season 3 of arrested development was NOTHING like its predecessors.
