It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
I can’t believe CBS would cancel Stalker and Battle Creek. Battle Creek is an excellent show, with drama and humor. Big mistake!!!!
I am an avid CBS fan. To cancel Battlecreek is wrong. There are to many reality shows on, this one brought a breath of fresh air. It gave me something to look forward to on Sunday night. I love the interaction between Russ and Milt. Please, please change your mind.
The show has developed the characters and had very intersting plots. It’s a very good show and I will miss it. Perhaps the day and time slot were not good, because the show certainly is.
I really like this show! My fiancé loved it. He’ll be very disappointed to hear this!! 🙁
Why do all the sarcastic comedy’s get cancelled? I love them!!
Sorry that show was cancelled. Funny and enjoyed the character interaction.
Canceling Battle creek is stupid. There are some seriously crappy shows on TV that will stay on. They make something a little different and of course…they pull it.
I love this show!!!! Please don’t cancel it just started really getting in to all the different people! Another season please!!!!
Love Battle Creek. Don’t cancel it. It would bea mistake to.
Loved Battle Creek. Loved it. Wahhhh!
Really sad to see this show go. Interesting plot lines and very human characters.
My wife and I love the show. I think the problem is that it started too slow with too much character development that could have been done progressively. The latest episodes have been FANTASTIC and I would explore CBS to reconsider. Maybe air it on a different night. The show has evolved to one of the best on TV. Please don’t punish it for a slow start.
Great show! The cast is great & the characters are developing nicely, gets better every episode!
My favorite show this year. Loved it.
Can this series be renewed, picked up and somehow continued? I hope so.
Oh dear. I’ve quickly become so attached to Battle Creek. Are there more of you out there? The series started slowly based on a very few basic principles: two mismatched principal lawmen (one of them somehow reassigned from his high FBI job), the hardscrabble problems of Battle Creek and its otherwise underfunded police force, multiple supporting officers and employees of that small local force, and some delightful, insightful, nuanced and even charming writing and commensurate performances. This is not high tech storytelling; if advanced science is employed, it’s off camera; yet it hardly seems possible that on this small scale… Read more »
Thank you Soltmom, for a very well written rejoinder. This topic has generated a lot of feedback, including petitions. Two data points converge: most of the folks responding are surprised and annoyed by the decision to cancel BC, in view of the excellent quality of the acting, script, and production. It is, as a television program, head and shoulders above most of the other fare served, by network tv, and several folks, responding, listed programs also cancelled, and also excellent. So we are, as a group, relatively discerning, perhaps somewhat better educated, and a little bit more demanding, not so… Read more »
