It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
Best original show I have seen in a long time! Such a shame to cancel it so soon, really crappy time slot!
I think that this show is one of the very best on TV in todays market…I feel that this show is a classic example of running a less than impressive “first episode” script/plot/acting….I have recently watched the first episode again and then the last..It’s almost like 2 different shows…This episode that aired at the end of May was so much better than the one previous in all area’s that a viewer looks forward too after a tough day at the office…In todays competitive landscape/TV/Cable, shows that get the rare chance to be televised to the mass market, have to always… Read more »
Should have renewed it. Good character elements still appearing through the last episode. Continued good writing could have kept this going for a long time.
Dude!! WTF!! Another one of my favorite new shows gets the ax?? This show is great!! And I don’t watch a ton of hours a week. I am picky about what I watch. And this show kept me entertained. Me, a 40 y/o middle class hard working intelligent guy with a busy fun life. Guess I do not matter.
What a bad decision. I agree with anonymous – keep 2 broke girls and cancel this? IDIOTIC
I knew it was too good to be renewed. CBS in it’s infantile wisdom has once again shown great stupidity in canceling this show. Does anyone remember how bad Seinfeld’s ratings were? Breaking Bad for many folks didn’t exist until it was in in last seasons. Rather than give the show a chance to grow, Neilsen or whoever is telling the suits in the tower decided by mathematics that the show wasn’t money maker. I agree with Jim, CBS will opt for another fake ‘reality’ show. Cheap to produce, no social or intrinsic value, which sums up the mentality of… Read more »
I really enjoyed the show. I think you jumped the gun on canceling it
I totally agree. I also think you jumped the gun. A show this good takes time to
develop it’s characters, and lay the ground work for the plot(s) to come. Please
reconsider!
Just when people discovered the show and it started to become the talk of tv-town it got cancelled.
Some shows are slow bloomers and this one is too. People thought it was just another crime show, but it was not. Battle Creek should be labeled COMEDY crime drama and your promotions should reflect that.
CBS shoudl cancel thei PR department instead and hire talented people for that.
The ratings lag might have been due just to the name of the show. Battle Creek doesn’t really describe what the show is about much less how good it really is.
Please!!!!!,!,! Bring it back. I have never been upset about a cancellation before. I am now!
What is wrong with you !
battle creek was a great show, all it needed was more time to build a following, it needs to be continued on another channel or given another chance, it was my favorite new show
The only new show we picked up – loved it. Dean Winters is awesome. The whole cast had great chemistry. Very disappointed it wasn’t renewed!
What the hell is CBS thinking? They cancel a well written series with fun, engaging characters and story lines, but renew a show like Two Broke Girls – a show where the “so-called” humor is forced and impossible to watch! Another reason to make Net Flix the network of choice!
This show must be renewed, it’s one of those shows that I record so I can watch during my days off work. Give the show sometime, and it will pick up the highest ratings.
A real shame. I think the show never had time or proper backing by CBS. Guess they will come up with some REALITY B.S. CBS SUCKS.
Soooo disappointed to read about the cancellation of Battle Creek. To find a show with characters that are engaging, play off each other well, and reveal more depth week after week is a rare thing and I made sure not to miss an episode. This show needs another chance to gain the audience it is certainly worthy of. Please reconsider your position and perhaps find another time slot for this unique, smart, and entertaining show.
Two Broke Girls is probably the worst show I have ever ‘attempted’ to sit through. And so you decide to cancel Battle Creek? WOW! That’s pure genius, CBS. NOT!!!!
