It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t sure after watching the first episode that this would become one of my favorite shows. As time went on we got to know the characters and understood their relationships and interactions much better. Enjoyed the humor and will be sorry this show wasn’t given a better chance.
Please do not cancel Battle Creek! I love this show and it should be given another chance.
I believe Seinfeld did not do well at first, and look what happened. You are making a big mistake!
Please dont cancel Battle Creek
Say it ain’t so! Battle Creek is a great show. The writing is witty, the character development is beautiful and the cast is superb. It’s a great, great show. I’ve watched every episode and thoroughly enjoyed it. As is so typical, the dummy program schedulers don’t give a good show a chance. They started running it at the same time the final episodes of Mad Men were airing. How about giving the show some hype, advertising, a bit of exposure? Put it in a better time slot for several months and see how it does. This is exactly why network… Read more »
My wife and I enjoyed Battle Creek from the first episode. It became one of our most favorite shows. The format was different; the characters were interesting; the dialogue was smart. It was a mistake to cancel it. There was so much more that could have developed in the plot line, both with respect to the 2 main characters and all the supporting characters as well. It’s because of the cancellation of well-written and well-acted shows such as this one that my wife and I are looking more and more away from the broadcast networks and toward streaming.
I loved Battle Creek! Great cast. I am sad to see some of the best shows cancelled.
Loved the show. So sad it’s been cancelled.
Once again Big Brother has screwed up. I realize Battle Creek was a little slow starting but it was always fun and was getting better. Once again the shortsightedness has cost us a great show. The lead characters relationships were getting stronger each week. Given a little more time the show would be a winner.
I really like this show and was bummed that it did not get a fair shake. The show was not given any hype or real advertisement. I had to DVR it because of its bad time slot, give it another chance. It never really had one and the rating were not that bad for a new show.
It was the best show on tv. Time placement was bad. Typical standard network programming stupidity.
I cannot believe Battle Creek is getting cancelled. The last episode has a cliffhanger and there is a romantic relationship just beginning. Please bring it back!!
I agree with everyone that this show was canceled too fast.It was a many faceted show with drama, comedy, pathos and wonderful relationships. We hardly got to know ye, Battle Creek. Please come back in a different time slot.
I thought the first few episodes of Battle Creek were not very good but continued watching. The last 3 or 4 episodes were much better and I’m sorry it has been cancelled.
I think the announcement of the cancellation killed the show. I have watched the entire season and loved the show more every week. I will admit the story line started out slowly but it got better every week. I especially liked the final three episodes and was glad to have the season end with answers not questions. I will miss Russ and Milt.
So disappointed the show was cancelled. It was becoming a favorite for sure. So tired of the violent shows. This one had humor and so well written. I’m positive the ratings would be much higher with more time. Most people probably weren’t even aware of how good this show was.
I totally agree! This is an excellent program.
