Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

It seems unethical to waste any fan’s time by teasing their viewers with a show of value and then cancelling it before completion. What a disappointment! Is this just a balance sheet problem? It makes me want to reconsider my commitment to any series before its completion. Perhaps from now on I’ll just wait till a show reaches its legitimate conclusion and then binge watch. The show is a good series and is a successful sleeper. It can develop a cult following. Like the Vikings, great scenes, great actors and very good computer generated aspects. It’s broadcast timing clashed with others. It should be brought back. YOU SHOULD REVIEW IT AGAIN ! You do have a winner.
We need season 2.. The episodes are good..
I don’t think beowolf should be taken off the air. Once again the writers left the show as a cliffhanger not as a to be continued. We will never know the outcome of Beowolf. Did he take the throne? Please stop leaving cliffhangers. It’s not a soap opera. I was very pleased how The Strain ended. Quinlan got the job done the master was DESTROYED. I hated when Quinlan, Eph and Zach died. They died as heroes THE END!!
the series is fine and everything good but the ******* marketing is ass I think that ruined beowulf

I hate it when a great show is canceled, and they leave fans hanging with a resolution to the story. Can you at least give them a series finale!

Great first season, typical though the higher up snot bags only go for ratings and nothing more. What a shame!!!
