Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

No, I don’t think the show should have been cancelled. I really enjoy shows like this. U need to give it another chance. You didn’t enen show enough highlights for the program to even give it a fair chance. Where were the previews because I sure didn’t see any.
I loved Beowulf. I thought it was a thousand times better than Game of Thrones. I’m really going to miss it. Great storyline, interesting characters. What a shame. In comparison, Game of Thrones is boring. Wish it was being cancelled instead.

Why would ITV cancel such a unique, interesting, and exciting series? I was so looking forward to the next season. I’m so disappointed with the cancellation.

Sad I really enjoyed this show and I’m a female, 67 years old and looked forward to show each week. I accidentally found the show. Never watch Esquire network and channel surfing saw it. Maybe it should be another Netflix show. Sad to see it go away

Bring back Beowulf! The best of this story has yet to be told. An epic tale deserves respect & to be completed as written. Great cast, second season would capture wider audience without a doubt. Beowulf never had a chance to be the hero, first season just a warm up.
