Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

Really enjoyed Beowulf it wasn’t well advirtised but I was enthusiastically awaiting season 2 I’m gutted it’s been cancelled BRING BACK BEOWULF PLEASE
Loved beowulf don’t think it was advertised well really but I’m really disappointed that it has been cancelled as would have loved to see much more
I’m from the US and watched the series for the first team and really enjoyed it. The issue I have is it wasn’t advertise very well as I never heard of the series. In my opinion, poor marketing in the US was the down fall for season 2 if they were trying to get US market share.
Really enjoyed the show. The writing and action was really good. I ver disappointed

What? This is the best fantasy series since Robin of Sherwood. How on earth did this get cancelled?! ITV, you seriously need to re-think your decision.

I loved this show and have wwatched the series on demand, enjoying it every bit as much as the first time. I like the characters and the series was well done. I was so disappointed when it wasn’t renewed!
are u kidding me ? no more Beowulf ? poor promotion…i just stumbled on it & was TOTALLY hooked !!!! my son just told me NO SEASON 2…well MERRY CHRISTMAS to me 🙁 someone somewhere needs to pick up the ball & carry on the series…i’m soooooooooooooo pissed
I enjoyed watching Beowulf. There is an abundance of reality tv but not enough period pieces on tv to watch. Esquire/ITV should have promoted the show better to get more viewers!
I have been so looking forward to Season 2 of Beowulf & of course, now it’s cancelled. I wanted to see what was going to happen with Elvina & Beowulf & Grendel. I hate when the networks never give good series a chance to develop a following. One season is not enough time. I think it had great potential. Shame, shame, shame. Please rethink this decision.

Pisses me off to no end when a really good show comes along with fabulous costuming and special effects amazing graphics. And you get really pulled in by it all, thinking man I can’t wait for next season and then you here that some idiot decided not enough people are watching. Maybe you should give it a little more time for people who love it to tell their friends and let it spread like wildfire from one person to another and then wow you have your numbers that you are so worried about.
What a shame… a knee jerk reaction by ITV to the negative elements. Our family really enjoyed the series and we were looking forward to season 2. It needs to be revaluated considering the outcry of disappointment and positive support for the series. Season 2 should be completed.
