It’s been a pretty bleak fall season for network television. Four new TV shows have seen their initial episode orders cut (Minority Report, Blood & Oil, The Player, and Truth be Told) and it’s understood that they’ve all been essentially cancelled. One of the season’s few bright spots, ratings-wise, has been NBC’s Blindspot.
Airing on Monday nights, in the coveted 10pm timeslot behind The Voice, Blindspot debuted to a 3.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.61 million viewers. The numbers have come way down since then but it’s still NBC’s highest-rated scripted show. Recently the network gave the drama a full first season order.
Unless the ratings keep falling, Blindspot’s all but guaranteed to be renewed for a second season.
Though the show’s end isn’t near, series creator/showrunner Martin Gero says he knows how the series will end — and knows how he can end the series if there’s a sudden cancellation at some point.
We know exactly who she is, we know who did this to her. We know why they did it to her; we know what their end game is. That’s not stuff we could do on the fly. For us, too, the early weeks in the writers room were more about Episode 22 than they were about Episodes 2 and 3. It was really important for us to know what all the tent poles were going to be for us this season and write backwards, as opposed to try to figure it out as we went along — which, to be honest, I just don’t know how to do. So, yeah, it’s pretty solidly set. And it’s why were able to give away what seems to be like so much — because we know what’s coming and we know there’s so much more to come.
We know what a lot of the tattoos are. The real bummer of this show is if it didn’t get picked up to series, we had done so much work before on the pilot because a) we needed to know a lot of these answers just in the pitching of it and b) we’re imprinting a treasure map on the body that even a casual viewer will start to detect if there’s a new tattoo on her back. So a lot of story had to be imprinted on her body beforehand.
There’s a handful of tattoos in there to give us outs if we run into trouble. They’re on the generic side. But it’s a lot of fun trying to stick to some sort of game plan.
What do you think? Are you enjoying the Blindspot series? Do you think it will be renewed for a second season or is there a chance that it will be cancelled instead? Will you stick with it?
Please NBC keep Blind spot and the Player and Truth be Told and Grimm… Please these are all great shows!!!! Thanks
Great show and cast. Please keep it going!
I’ve watched blind spot it is one of mind
Favorite shows and can’t wait for the next
episode.
I love this show and I think at last the network is behind it. Too bad the same thing can’t be said about Allegiance which I also loved.
I find Blindspot to be an incredibly captivating series, trying to keep up with all the tattoos and their meanings or directions. We haven’t had a chance to really get to know the characters and what “stuff” they’re made of. There’s just enough mystery to these characters and how they interact with each other to keep me coming back each week. PLEASE don’t cancel this series before we get to know more. The networks always cancel some of the “slow to catch on” series, based on ratings that may or may not have more to do with seasonal events (Presidential… Read more »
I really like the Blind Spot. It’s the first show I watch on my dvr!
I’ve watched Binns pot and they have a excellent
show so please continue with the show
I can’t wait until the next episode.
I thought it was exciting from the first scene. Please don’t cancel like you do everything else
I love Blindspot!
Everyone is saying what the whole country is thinking: we are tired of getting into a new show only to have the station suddenly cancel it. They have made us leery. My husband and I record several shows and watch them the next morning or catch them on Hulu if there was a technical glitch. Too bad they don’t recognize the recording.
“Blind Spot” is a great show, I thoroughly enjoy the new concept and actioned packed with a possibility of romance. Please DO NOT cancel after this season, bring it back for Season 2 and more. My age is 57, and my younger sister of 47 also watches this show. I agree with Barbara Agnew, people are getting fed up with investing in watching a show only to have it cancelled even before Season One is over. And now with Netflix, Crave-TV, shomi and others, where people can stream watch a series. You need to keep good entertaining shows like “Blind… Read more »
I quit investing time in new shows but I DVR them if I’m interested and catch up on them if they are renewed for a second season.
I love Blindspot! Good story and keeps things action packed for all the show. Never boring. Everyone in my age group that watch TV like it. I am 64 FYI. Good room for the story to deverlop romantically too. However, I have become relunctant to even get involved with the new shows. I hate getting invested and then having the show cancelled. I was really annoyed and disappointed when ABC cancelled Forever after one season.. It was a great show, had a great following and was intelligent. MAny people of varying ages, from teens to oldies, loved it. I am… Read more »
