Jimmy Smits won multiple awards for his work on the LA Law TV series back in the 1990s. Now, he’s back on NBC in another legal drama called Bluff City Law. Will his latest show also be a big success on the peacock network? Will Bluff City Law be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A legal drama, the Bluff City Law TV series stars Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson. Coming from a famous Memphis family that’s known for taking on injustice, a brilliant lawyer named Sydney Strait (McGee) used to work at her father Elijah’s celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way. After barely speaking to Elijah (Smits) for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of the loss of his wife and in hopes of reconnecting with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his Civil Rights firm and take on a chemical company whose product may cause cancer. Despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she agrees because she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world — as long as they can find a way to get along. No sooner has Sydney returned than she stumbles on a secret that Elijah has been keeping from her that may change everything.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
11/26 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Bluff City Law TV series on NBC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*6/16/20 update: Bluff City Law has been cancelled by NBC so, there won’t be a second season.
This is really a great show with a cool setting and story lines! I think the only problem that might keep viewers from watching, is the Monday night time slot!
I am with you! They should have put it on Tuesday nights between The Voice and This is Us!
Please reconsider CANCELLING…. absolutely love this show, story lines are great, so very much enjoy this to Bull which has lost me as a viewer, his attitude…Mr. Know It All.
Jimmy Smits is a gentle yet tough character who takes responsibility for his actions…love the whole cast and how they fit and work together to accomplish their goals
This is a terrific show and should be measured by a broader demographic. Younger viewers don’t watch network tv much any more, and a law procedural starring Jimmy Smits is bound to be loved by an older crowd. Give it a chance NBC! The characters are developing nicely, cases are current, varied and well-argued, and the father daughter chemistry is outstanding.
I am 33 and I love this show! And Jimmy Smits!
My husband and I love Bluff City Law. Since we record all shows and watch the next day, does that affect the ratings? Its just not reasonable if that’s the way it is!!! The story lines are refreshing, the characters and the actors who play them are the best. Please don’t cancel this series.
Yes it counts as ratings points. I watch this and The Good Doctor every week.
I DVD Bluff City Law to be sure I never missed it only to discover it negatively impacts ratings when we record. Get real people networks. Most of us do that.
Best new show of the season. Please do not cancel.
I Really Really Really love the program. Jimmy Smits, other cast, storylines are fascinating. My only problem is I dont effect the ratings because I don’t watch tv n have cable. I watch on my phone on NBC website a day later or two.
Does that get measured at all.?
I wonder how many others do something like that.
Yes it does
Absolutely no reason to watch anymore. NBC caps the show at 10 episodes, so it’s cancelled for me.
No! You should continue watching it! Don’t give up!
I absolutely love this show. It’s nice to have a show with episodes of fighting for what is right and Jimmy is awesome. Please renew this show.
Bluff City Law is one of the most Awesome shows lately. my husband and I both love this show.
I don’t see how you can establish its not doing so well with just 4 shows already cast.
This so happens to be on the same time that BULL is also on, so we record it to watch the next day, so if youre taking the votes on this, it should not be accredited to this.
And The Good Doctor
Please NBC give this show a good chance! I love it! It’s real and has good stories! I love Jimmy Smits and Caitlin McGee as the starring actors! Please keep this going! I’m so sad if it doesn’t stay on air and on a major network. I don’t and can’t get streaming online channels so please keep it on NBC!There are not a lot of good shows on anymore and for once this one is! Love all the characters on it!I will tell everyone to watch it and keep watching it! Thank You
Totally agree!! Love this show
Each episode has improved. Character development is progressing nicely. The cast is beginning to show a nice fit.
The ratings are a concern. Dropping each week especially in the 18-49 demo.
I Love this show! I normally hate Monday’s but now I look forward to Monday evening and watching this show. It is very intense but ends on a good note each week. I certainly hope it is renewed!
This show is good and better not be canceled. It’s interesting and has meaning. The stars worked hard getting this show ready to air. Please give the show a chance. ❤️
I really like this show, it has heart.
So far so good…
