Over the summer, rumors were flying that Brothers & Sisters would be finished at the end of season five.
Much of that speculation stemmed from the fact that series regulars Rob Lowe and Emily VanCamp were leaving, Calista Flockhart was cutting back her appearances, and ABC only committed to 18 episodes for year five. The ratings also hit some all-time lows towards the end of last season with a 2.3 in the all-important 18-49 demographic.
Despite those negatives, executive producer David Marshall Grant maintained, “No one has told me that it’s the last season.” As a result, he wasn’t making any plans to steer the storylines to a series finale. He noted, “I don’t want to do that. It’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
If there were any plans by the network to bring Brothers & Sisters to a close, they seem to have been sidelined. ABC recently ordered four additional episodes, bringing the season five total to 22 installments. What’s more, the ratings have come back up.
This season, the Sunday night drama is averaging a 2.8 rating in the demo and 9.09 million viewers. That’s the show’s lowest season average to date but Brothers & Sisters is the network’s sixth best performing scripted series in the demo, coming in just below Private Practice. While they’d surely like the numbers to be better, ABC has lots of weaker shows to deal with.
For now at least, Brothers & Sisters looks to be on track for a sixth season renewal.
What do you think? Do you want Brothers & Sisters to keep going? Should it be renewed for season six or is it time for the show to be cancelled?

Save the Walkers, we need them.
There bloody better well be a sixth season!! And a seventh and an eighth!! 🙂 😉
I hope this show isn’t cancelled!! I watch it faithfully, have the DVR set to record & never miss a episode. It’s a great way to end the wkend & start the week!!!
I really enjoy the show!!! You can honestly say you never know what’s gonna happen, week to week.
This is the only TV drama that reflects American culture, somewhat accurately! Keep it on the air as long as Sally Field wants to keep working. Her ability to express emotion is unmatched in Hollywood–past, present, and hopefully future. She is truly an artist. The ensemble cast is an asset and if actors are leaving because of budget cuts, ABC is cutting its own wrist, like they did in the 70’s and 80’s. Greed is the downfall of all countries and TV Networks.
Keep in on for a 5th season. Brothers & Sisters is a REAL as a lot of people I know. I have purchased on DVD all 4 seasons and I’ll definitely get the 5th when it’s finally available. Mr. Grant – tell those ABC executives you STILL have a faithful audience out there in TV land.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW. I look foreward to it every week. It is an awesome show – keep it on the air PLEASE!
I looooove this show!! I came to it late, (I bought dvds originally as a time filler), but was hooked from the start. I too will be willing for it to go on for several seasons. I adore the entire cast, especially Kevin and Scotty!
I love this show and will be happy to see it go into season 10 and beyond.
Keep the show it is great and an all round true to form family of that size.
Sally Field and all the actors are wonderful. Shame about Rob Lowe. Hope he is replaced with another gorgeous guy.
KEEPer for sure, and I too was very surprised at Scotty’s little spew of faith and doubt, I alway figured the other would specially its in daddy’s genes to stray, tho all the putting off Scotty had been getting it’s not a wonder….. either way it was and will be a main stay they will work this OUT!!! and what a pick for playing the Uncles new (and gone) BF.
Just can’t wait to see more each week. tho I am out of the coveted demographics, 18-49 , that’s just suits ******** up again.
There is no direction on this show. They fly ahead one year and the stories are going nowhere fast.
Keep it, this is my favorite show.
This is one of my favorite shows. It reminds me a bit of our family. I wouldn’t like to see it go. Please keep it going.
Keep It….The Sally Field Mom is the Mom you love to hate! She is a pain in the rear. I do not like the fact that Scotty is about to confess to an affair. I liked the faithful marriage of the two guys as that was a show staple. Now he is messing around and I am afraid he is gonna pay the price.
I love this show–it is one of my favorites –there are so many possibilities–one star leaves and another comes on board–new blood–keep it going!!!
