Over the summer, rumors were flying that Brothers & Sisters would be finished at the end of season five.
Much of that speculation stemmed from the fact that series regulars Rob Lowe and Emily VanCamp were leaving, Calista Flockhart was cutting back her appearances, and ABC only committed to 18 episodes for year five. The ratings also hit some all-time lows towards the end of last season with a 2.3 in the all-important 18-49 demographic.
Despite those negatives, executive producer David Marshall Grant maintained, “No one has told me that it’s the last season.” As a result, he wasn’t making any plans to steer the storylines to a series finale. He noted, “I don’t want to do that. It’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
If there were any plans by the network to bring Brothers & Sisters to a close, they seem to have been sidelined. ABC recently ordered four additional episodes, bringing the season five total to 22 installments. What’s more, the ratings have come back up.
This season, the Sunday night drama is averaging a 2.8 rating in the demo and 9.09 million viewers. That’s the show’s lowest season average to date but Brothers & Sisters is the network’s sixth best performing scripted series in the demo, coming in just below Private Practice. While they’d surely like the numbers to be better, ABC has lots of weaker shows to deal with.
For now at least, Brothers & Sisters looks to be on track for a sixth season renewal.
What do you think? Do you want Brothers & Sisters to keep going? Should it be renewed for season six or is it time for the show to be cancelled?

Please continue the show.

The best tv show ever!!!!!
Please keep this wonderful show on the air. It is written so well and has a fabulous cast. This is one of the best shows on ABC……MORE MORE MORE
Please end the madness. Rabid fan since episode one, this season is unwatchable! Who is writing this muck? I think Senator McAlister had the right idea when he left the show. What’s with Justin’s wife just leaving and going East. The writing for every character and every episode has been such that these characters would not SAY these things. It feels like a whole new writing team took over and should all be fired.
I love this show, but the writing has really tanked. I would love it to come back for another season with more interesting story lines.
Please don’t cancel the best Tv show that has come along in awhile. It is my favorite show of the entire week to watch. I can relate with Nora as a mom and her trials with her family .
I hope it gets cancelled. It’s one dysfunctional plot after the other. The Walkers need to learn the art of being happy. It’s one whiny episode after another. Terrible show. I stopped watching years ago.
you know guys. if you do not like or are not willing to see this show, then don’t watch it. there’s still many people who loved this show. I am one of them who loved the show.
Love B&S. Part of my Sunday night life. It is the family I love to be around. Please keep them coming!
Oh please!
As if the success of this show depended on Vancamp, Lowe or Flockhart.
This show is high quality because of ALL the actors, not just those three.
Actually, Vancamp doesn’t even fall in the “quality acting” category.
ABC would be foolish to cancel this widely popular show.
As usual, I’ve come to this party very late, having finally begun to pay attention to this outstanding ensemble series only this past year. (I’m playing serious catch-up courtesy of Netflix) It was the episode that opened with a loving kiss between Kevin and Scotty that got my attention and made me want to see more–how often do you see gay affection offered so naturally on mainstream series television?–and in sitting down to watch I fell for the ups and downs of the entire Walker clan. Though I’m especially disappointed to learn of the departure of Rob Lowe, I’d love… Read more »
I hope there is no limit on seasons these actors are phenomonal!! I would be very sad to lost my all time favorite family drama!! I don’t mind the gay scenes at all !! there are those relations out there and its real! one should begin questioning why if they themselves love their own family and want the best for them in real life why does it strike such a cord in you? kissing is love and so all your viewing is two actors displaying Love! PerioD! Anyway, Get tommy back to looking healthy not sickly thin!! unless he has… Read more »
Keep it going! This is by far my favorite show on TV. No other shoe can make me laugh or cry like Brothers and Sisters, and there isn’t any family quite like the Walkers. This show has given me hope and inspiration many times over. I would be heartbroken if it wasn’t renewed for Season Six.
I’m 25 and have been watching since the beginning; LOVE LOVE LOVE Brothers and Sisters. I would be crushed if it wasn’t back for many seasons to come!
Keep the show going. It’s the best series on television. The acting, writing, and directing are all superb. I’d like a Season 6, 7, 8, etc.
