Starz has decided to cancel their Camelot TV series after one season. While the ratings weren’t bad for the Arthurian show, the numbers aren’t necessarily the whole reason why there won’t be a second season.
Camelot, as you might have guessed, is based on the legend of King Arthur. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower as a young King Arthur, with Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
The premiere attracted 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marked the cable channel’s most-watched and highest-rated original series premiere to date. Unfortunately, the second installment dropped 24% in total viewership and subsequent episodes dropped even further. Still, by the end of the season, the ratings were on an upswing. The finale nearly matching the viewership of the premiere.
While Camelot may have ordinarily ended up getting a renewal from Starz, the ratings weren’t the only factor in play.
A statement from a Starz representative notes, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.” Deadline reports that some of those “challenges” included scheduling conflicts with some of the actors.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Camelot has been cancelled? Would you have liked to have seen a second season?

Well when I started watching for the nudity alone, I knew the story was going away.
I am sorry but Arthur was the worst actor on the show. Merlin was a joke as well.
Morgana and Arthur’s mother were nice actors, as well as the portrayal of some of the Knights.
Other then that, the rest were awful. Don’t start me on the nun.
i am pissed!!!! i cannot believe it… i have been waiting and waiting for season 2
what the hell are you replacing it with? some ridiculous vampire ****????? god peoples opinions on what is quality tv anymore completley floors me. The Tudors was wonderful and then Camelot…awesome…but no freaking 2nd season…that’s straight up ass. I will not be watching anymore starz productions…It is not fair to the viewers to bring a show then drop it like you have …..pissed off!!!!
I agree!!! I absolutely loved Camelot.
shame this happened maybe Showtime or HBO will pick it up but i am hoping showtime due to the fact that The Tudors and The Borgias have had a great run on Showtime and this show would fit into those as well
Starz is making the same mistake Showtime made cancelling the Tudors. That show could’ve gone on for a while and been good.
I don’t know why HBO would want this show as they already got a better show, Game of Thrones. Sorry Camelot fans, GOT slaughtered Camelot and let it for dead on a ditch.
Game of thrones is on its last leg this year. Maybe they could pick up the story line and make it that much better so GOT fans will have a new show to watch
i am glad they cancelled the show… it s**ked! comming after spartacus i expected good fighting scenes at least but the whole action/drama was stupid and the main actor was lame… come on starz, i know you can place something better 🙂
I dont think it should have been canceled regardless of the conflict with the actors schedule…for the simple fact that schedules are worked around ALL the time…I think they need to keep going with it. It is the best series I have caught on starz. BIG mistake people, Sell it to HBO or something cause it is well worth watching. Needless to say Im pissed cause I just heard of this today.
Pathetic ! This was a better than average show with a great cast. Again some faceless white suit has made a dopey decision that has disappointed many !
Really enjoyed watching Camelot. Was looking forward to next season.
I do prefer Scyfy’s Merlin. Camelot was too weighty.
I’m with Joanna here. Syfy’s (well, BBC’s, whatever) “Merlin” series is much better, just overall fun entertainment, and you can actually root for Arthur as a hero on that show. As much as I enjoyed watching Joseph Fiennes, “Camelot” was a complete and utter bore. I wish I could’ve enjoyed it, cos on the surface it looks like the kind of thing I like (medieval drama), but it was just… ick, not great. The characters, by and large, weren’t likeable at all and the show just wasn’t entertaining. I guess it was just too morally gray for my liking (and… Read more »
I’m with Joanna and Kat too. I liked Camelot, but by the end of the season I was very upset with the show, it gave us nothing to hope for. BBC’s Merlin is a much better show in my opinion.
i agree! i only watched this cos’ there was nothing else. i gave it a lot of chances but it never got better.
I’m very disappointed Camelot wasn’t given a second season. It was a great show with a fine cast all round. I truly was hoping it would have gotten picked up. My Friday TV nights won’t be the same without it next year! 🙁
Only just now started watching it on Netflix and I’m really enjoying it. Sad to hear there will be no second season.
So sorry to hear the show is ending my husband and I have enjoyed it very much
Hopefully, Starz will put something better on the schedule.
Would have liked a season 2 sine the first ended establishing the round table, opened up the possibility of the arthur/guinivere romance with lancelot already in place for the future love triangle. Very much enjoyed the adult themes of this sereis imposed on the arthurian legend. Sad to see it end!
Our Petition to renew this epic tale is here. Just in a few days we got 141 signatures so just think how many we could bet in a couple of month or even a month. Then we can send it on to Starz and if not Starz another network. This series has so much potential and it was just on its journey there.
