Last season, CBS tried to establish new shows but almost all of them were cancelled due to low ratings. No new dramas survived and only two sitcoms did. Which shows will be cancelled or renewed this time? We’ll have wait and see.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Battle Creek, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Briefcase, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, Extant, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Scorpion, Stalker, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Why was Stalker cancelled? ugh…..no words
It’ll be interesting to see how Supergirl does. I’ve been skeptical of superhero TV programmes for a while, with only Daredevil hitting the mark. Early previews don’t seem too hot
CBS has totally lost its mind or maybe they never had one to begin with Supergirl Really!!!!! they should have certain channels for these programs and not CBS they take off programs like stalker and put asinine programs like Supergirl on give me a break
CBS looking poor here, losing lots of viewers YOY.
I usually am not a complainer, but year after year watching my favorite shows being cancelled I am letting loose. I will no longer watch CBS. You have taken off my last CSI. I know my other shows will follow. I am but one person and I don’t matter but it matters to me. There are plenty of other channels I can watch. I no longer trust you or support you.
I too am upset that csi is taking off csi all togeather and leaving csi cyber which no one watches. when you have a good thing going I wish you would leave it alone. please, more csi’s. I am only one person but I am one of millions that watch csi reruns every day, don’t that tell you something, like there are millions out there that would like to see new epesoids there is now nothing to watch on cbs any more foe me so I will go to the othert networks for shows. yhank you for the many seasons… Read more »
I totally understand your frustration as I have been there with you with so many favorite shows of mine and to a degree you are right about TV Stations not caring about you. We all know that the bottom line is what makes or breaks television shows and the higher the ratings for a show the more money the network can charge advertisers. We have so many options as to what to watch! There is no longer the 3 networks and nothing else, which I can guarantee ABC, CBS & NBC would LOVE to go back to the “olden golden… Read more »
Hasn’t big brother already been renewed ?
the mentalist
I was extremely upset when CBS cancelled Stalker! Why? It was so good and different than other cop shows.
I also love the new summer show Zoo. I know it has mixed reviews but, I love because there has never been another TV series like this one. This the same reason I love Under The Dome, it’s different.
Keep it going CBS
agree
I don’t tune in to NBC anymore but CBS is STILL the way to go and it’s the only network that I tune in to now.
I would like to know when cbs is going to show
the new series of Blue Bloods,NCIS,NCIS L.A,
NCIS New Orlean
Hey Steve, those are Fall shows and, therefor will be back in the Fall, lol
Stalker was one of the best nighttime shows. If you want to cancel a show, cancel that crazy CSI cyber. Stalker needs to be back on the air.
Better yet, don’t even bother with that dumb ass show Super Girl!! REALLY!! Give me a break. They cancelled Stalker and are airing that. Where does CBS get their brains from. Right, they sit on it.
I would be happy when the new series of
Hawaii five-0 and Blue Bloods air
Hey Steve,
If CBS brings back H50 and Blue Bloods that would be a step in the right direction. Stalker definitely needs another season, along with Criminal Minds, CSI Cyber, (I found CSI to be extremely informative and amazing how these Black Hats do what they do). Madam Secretary is interesting and I could handle another season. Unfortunately, CBS is not known for moving in the right direction when deciding which shows should stay/go. Hopefully, they will take that right step.
why was stalker cancelled it was not given a good time slot. and what does tbd means
please don’t cancel stalker. many people I see are in agreement that it should continue. maggie O rocks. maybe some more seasoned actor/actresses could be added
You need to give these new shows at least 2 seasons before cancelling them. I am still so upset over the cancel of Battle Creek. It is such a good show & fun to watch. The ones that are shows the family can watch together never last. I do not like reality shows, but they always seem to survive. CBS is my main network………..
I am totally disgusted w/CBS when it comes to canceling Battle Creek finally a witty cop show that does not play to a12 year old mentality and they cancel it …. I will never watch a first season show again on CBS … BOO!
Agree
