For the previous season, CBS introduced just eight new scripted shows during the regular 2017-18 season. The network cancelled half of them and renewed the other four. How will their new programming do in the ratings for the 2018-19 season? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother: Celebrity Edition, Big Brother, Blood & Treasure, Blue Bloods, Bull, The Code, Criminal Minds, Elementary, Fam, FBI, God Friended Me, The Good Fight, Happy Together, Hawaii Five-0, Life in Pieces, Love Island, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Magnum PI, Man with a Plan, Mom, Murphy Brown, NCIS, NCIS: The Cases They Can’t Forget, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Neighborhood, Ransom, The Red Line, SEAL Team, Survivor, SWAT, Whistleblower, The World’s Best and Young Sheldon.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
I am glad, but a bit shocked!! Normally, if any CBS series is liked by the audiences..CBS cancels it. Shows like Instinct, Numbers, Scorpion, etc. All they want to show is those stupid, fake, reality shows. Or, shows with lots of violence, and sex! Shame on you, CBS. You were once #1 to me….now…you are way past 0
God Friended Me Is A Great Show It Would Be Right Up Your Alley
Please stop with the reboot of shows and making major changes to the cast. I’ve liked and even loved some of the reboots, but I wish they would just change the name of the show and names of the cast. I’m surprised Bewitched isn’t about 2 guys which get married, Sam and Darrin and the kids they adopt. No actual magic just like new age mysticism with crystals, incense, and candles.
Why don’t you carry The Bold and the Beautiful like you carry The Young and the Restless?
Last week every CBS show was down in ratings from the previous week. And the show that was up was up .1% . Wonder what their advertisers are going to say with their blackout with Direct TV users. NOT GOOD I SAY.
It’s hard to leave a decent rating for CBS shows. They ongoing fight with Nexstar might just have a negative effect on their shows’ ratings. It’s hard to be loyal to a group that is not loyal to you.
Still frustrated about “Life in Pieces”. It was my Favorite show. It’s fun and something different. And it had a lot more viewers than others shows renewed.
Please, some other channel pick it up…
I absolutely LOVE “The Worlds Best”!!! I never missed a week and sat mesmerized in front of the TV watching this show. I loved the performers as well as the very efficient judges. Faith Hill did a beautiful job with all her comments and made it interesting to watch!!
Please BRING BACK: “THE WORLDS BEST”!!
Why is Life in Pieces cancelled? It’s the best comedy on TV!
And 10 shows below it in the ratings have been renewed. That makes no sense.
I hope SWAT is renewed!!
