For the previous season, CBS introduced just eight new scripted shows during the regular 2017-18 season. The network cancelled half of them and renewed the other four. How will their new programming do in the ratings for the 2018-19 season? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother: Celebrity Edition, Big Brother, Blood & Treasure, Blue Bloods, Bull, The Code, Criminal Minds, Elementary, Fam, FBI, God Friended Me, The Good Fight, Happy Together, Hawaii Five-0, Life in Pieces, Love Island, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Magnum PI, Man with a Plan, Mom, Murphy Brown, NCIS, NCIS: The Cases They Can’t Forget, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Neighborhood, Ransom, The Red Line, SEAL Team, Survivor, SWAT, Whistleblower, The World’s Best and Young Sheldon.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
SEAL TEAM on CBS! I hope everyone has watched it and voted for it..
SWAT, Blue Bloods and Hawaii Five-O are the best shows on TV so I certainly hope they all get renewed. Fam is also a very good new show that I like a lot so I am rooting for that one as well.
Happy together is hilarious!!! Keep it coming.
The Neighborhood Magnum PI @ MacGyver are great shows Magnum is very good compared to the old one this one is a 10 and the neighborhood is a show stopper excellent writing and very funny keep up the good shows
Why is Instinct not back. It was picked up for season 2 but not on any schedule.
Madame Secretary is the best political show since The West Wing. It is intelligent, current, with impeccable actors, and with a firm family heart at its core. I guess this means it will be cancelled. It is one of the few shows worth watching.
Really hoping Blue Bloods continues! It’s the only police drama I like!
God friended me must go on good spiritual show need more of these shows.
Big bang will be missed if ended.
Love God friended me god show lots of spiritual tougths. Some show that were brought back like Magne pi just not same big bang theory will be missed young Sheldon good show.mushy law not intrested.
I have not been as interested in NCIS LA since Hattie has been gone . She was the show . The fact that I don’t get all my recordings because of the NFL They better do something it was once a show I always enjoyed…not so much anymore
I fully agree. The show seems amputated without Hattie. Even if she was just in for one scene I’d be happy. As for the NFL. I Love football , but the scheduling could be better. Start the games a half an hour earlier!
I know what you mean but from the few things that have been mentioned Linda hasn’t been on because of an accident it was an article I think that was just released. But I’m like sit her butt in a chair or work it into the show like they did Daniella pregnancies.
All I’m saying is the New Year better have some Hetty in it.
I love the series MacGyver with Lucas Till. The series is absolutely great and I devour every single episode of the series. I hope there will be another season 4, because the show is awesome. I also like the series NCIS Los Angeles. The two series are absolutely great for me.
I really like Seal Team. It’s very well written and acted. Love the action, but also the stories at home that balances everything. Hope it’s renewed again. 18-24s don’t have the money they used to. Too busy paying off the student loans. I buy for my grandchildren much, much more than I buy for myself.
Acute old lady I have to some just dom’t Care what have to say anymore. Not at people pay for college parent are in charge not student okay. Macgver better get renewed boo magnum pi stinks. Happy Together need more episodes and Renewed too .
I love it so much and would hate to see it cancelled
Criminal Minds should have been cancelled already. Has gotten really bad
I love Criminal Minds. Best show on television. The s14 premier was excellent. Beat my expectations (that were really high) by miles. The show is excellent with believable characters and plots. Matthew Gray Gubler is superb as Dr. Spencer Reid. I know a lot fans who can’t watch late at night but dvr it to watch the next day or over the weekend. What about people who watch online like CBS Access? Do those viewers get counted? I can’t believe you are counting all viewers with that low rating.
I agree. I love this show. I was worried when Derek left the show but it has held together far better than I expected! The writing is excellent, the characters are interesting and the plots are y’all wonderfully twisted!
I never thought until now just how many favorite TV shows that I like are on CBS. Our family has watched “60 Minutes” for years. We also watch “48 Hours”, “Bull”, “Blue Bloods”. “NCIS Los Angeles”, and the new FBI series. All amazingly good shows especially “Blue Bloods” and NCIS Los Angeles” which are my all time favorites.
