CBS has released their new schedule for the 2008 – 2009 season. Some existing shows made it onto the list while, sadly, some favorites did not.
Returning on the fall schedule are 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, The Big Bang Theory, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Numb3rs, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, The Unit, and Without a Trace.
Interestingly, Christine was “on the bubble” for some time and was poised to move to ABC if CBS had cancelled it. Not only did CBS renew the series but they also gave it a full 22 episode order. That’s a first for that sitcom. The other bubble sitcom, Rules of Engagement, will return to TV midseason.
New CBS shows include action-drama Eleventh Hour; an Elizabeth Reaser dramady, The Ex List; murder-mystery Harper’s Island (midseason); a Simon Baker drama called The Mentalist; a Jay Mohr/Paula Marshall sitcom titled Project Gary; and Kyle Bornheimer’s sitcom, Worst Week.
Sadly, all this means that we’ll be saying goodbye to a number of beloved shows from last season…
Cane — The Jimmy Smits drama just never caught on and has been off the air for months. There were 13 episodes produced and all have aired. The series finale was shown December 18, 2007.
Kid Nation — The adolescent reality show spurred a lot of controversy, until it actually hit the airwaves. The competition ran its course and all 13 episodes aired, the last one on December 12, 2007.
Jericho — After a miraculous campaign, CBS revived the series for seven episodes. Unfortunately, not enough people watched the show to warrant a third season. The last episode aired on March 25th.
Moonlight — A fan favorite that almost made it to season two. There’s a slim chance it may be revived elsewhere but it’s done on CBS. The finale airs this Friday, May 16th.
Power of 10 — The game show’s ratings paled compared to Drew Carey’s other primetime game show, the million dollar edition of The Price Is Right. Two of the 18 produced episodes never aired and it looks doubtful they ever will.
Shark — The James Woods series fell victim to demographics and ratings. Only 16 episodes were produced for season two and the last of them will be shown May 20th.
Welcome to the Captain — This sitcom couldn’t hook an audience right from the start. All five episodes have aired with the last one having been shown on March 3rd. Stay tuned!

Maybe you should give these shows a chance and quit looking at “making money!!!” All the shows my family loves to watch you take off the air after a few episodes. Seinfeld didn’t start out with good ratings, but look at what happens when you give a show a chance. CANE, The Class!!! What if we quit watching CBS because you take away shows we love to watch!!!
BOO on you!!
The 2007-2008 TV season was messed up because of the writer’s strike. A person didn’t know when there show would be on and if it would be a repeat. You got tired of checking to see. I feel shows like Cane and Shark weren’t given a fair shot. I don’t think any shows during this season should be cancelled.
BRING CANE BACK! anything worth watching you people take off the air and leave the junk on no one wants to see. Cane was the best show on tv. BRING CANE BACK.
i agree why why why would you cancel cane and shark and moonlight and i just don’t understand i hope somebody pick up cane ……man i’m crying here.. to much talent and skills wasted on these show for them to be canceled..these shows should be picked up somewhere esle
I am really disappointed that Cane and Moonlight will not be returning. There are very few shows that I look at on regular television. I think you have made a big mistake and should bring these shows back. I have friends who feel the same way. I guess if you cancel Ghost Whisper and CSI/Miami, I will have to give up regular television altogether and just look at movies on cable or watch a dvd.
I just found out Shark & Moonlight are being cancelled!! CBS is the only station my wife and I really watch; those are 2 of our favorite shows! Shark was doing well until they switched there time slot!
cane is a victim of the blasted writer’s strike. the show was intelligent, fast-paced, well-written, great cast, and then there’s jimmy smits. what are they THINKING? oh-that’s right, i forgot a moment. they’re a television network. they DON’T think. but keep that stupid amazing race, not one but THREE versions of csi, and please hang on to ghost whisperer. criminy.
SHARK SHARK SHARK SHARK SHARK SHARK SHARK SHARK CANE CANE CANE CANE CANE CANE CANE CANE THESE SHOWS NEED SERIUS RE-CONSIDERATION TWO OF THE BEST SHOWS IN THA WORLD IF U DONT PUT IT BACK ON THINK HOW MANY VIEWERS U WILL LOSE
BIGGEST FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Cane.
I would love to see a kid nation 2, maybe the cw could pick it up
Cane And Shark Are The Best Shows Please BringThem Back If U Dont At Least Show Re-Runs Because No One Got To See Cane U have To Gine It A Chance Or It Will Fail. And who cares about ratings moonlight should be canceled along with new adventures of old christine because its not funny. PLEASE BRING CANE AND
SHARK BACK
Did CBS put Po10 against DoND in January because of how bad Drew’s hosting on the Price is Right has been going?
I’m with you P.Shrimpton, can’t understand some of the shows they have canceled..Men in Trees for one..Hope one of the other net works will pick it up, and it soars to the top.. Shame on ABC..
Shame, Shame on CBS for cancelling one of the best new shows on their
network, namely Moonlight. It’s actors are excellent and the story always
entertaining. I can’t believe they would cancel a great show and leave
ones on that can actually bore you to death–like old christine? Unbelieveable!
