Craig Ferguson’s syndicated Celebrity Name Game TV show has been cancelled. Deadline reports the Courteney Cox and David Arquette executive produced game show will not continue beyond its third season.
A half-hour weekday show, Celebrity Name Game pairs celebrities with contestants who improvise clues to identify as many correct answers as possible in a given time period. The winning team has a chance to win $20,000 in the final round.
Here is more, from Deadline:
“We’ve had a wonderful time producing Celebrity Name Game and we are exceptionally proud of its three seasons in syndication,” said Jennifer Mullin, Co-CEO of FremantleMedia North America. “While we are not renewing in syndication at this time, it is a format we believe in. We are thankful to our loyal audience, our celebrity guests, the incredibly talented Craig Ferguson, our partners at Debmar–Mercury and Coquette, and our crew — whose passion for this series has been unparalleled.”
Celebrity Name Game, which will complete its third season, is not doing too bad in the ratings; it is in the middle of the first-run syndication pack, most recently posting a weekly 1.4 household rating, up 8% and 0.7 in the key women 25-54 demographic. But the numbers were not strong enough to justify another year, which is the case for high-end strips. The first two seasons earned Ferguson two consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards for best game show host.
“We’re incredibly proud of Celebrity Name Game and grateful to the terrific fan base that has supported the show for three seasons,” said Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury. “We thank everyone who has contributed to its run, including Craig Ferguson, the show’s extraordinary host who received two Daytime Emmy Awards in recognition of his talent, our amazing partners at FremantleMedia North America, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, their creative collaborators and the outstanding production team.”

It was the one show I really looked forward to watching each evening. It was funny and entertaining. Something we need more of these days!
I am very disappointed that this show was cancelled. This is one of my favorite game shows.
I love this show. Very disappointed I won’t be able to watch it anymore.
I am VERY surprised to see that this show has been cancelled. It is exceptionally funny, and Craig Ferguson is beyond funny. There must have been some other reason.
Sorry they won’t renew the show, Craig made the show work. Wouldn’t be the same without him
Can not believe that all of the good shows are not renewed! Very disappointed, it wouldn’t be the same without Craig.
I’m really upset this is being cancelled my husband and I watch it every night it’s a funny show and I love C. F he is hilarious please renew
You are canceling one of the best game shows on TV. Craig is so absolutely funny. Unbelievable. Maybe GSN will take it and give it life. Much much much better than some of the shows gsn have on !!!!!
yes, renew. good fun, good guests, good host – excellent all around.
All I can ask is why? Why was there “Not enough ratings”? Move the time slot, change networks, test another environment! This was a highly entertaining game show and way better than some of the new ones like Candy Crush. I’m sad to see it go. Loved Craig, the guests and the concept.
Enjoyed the program. C.F. is a very talented host. We got to see the human side of many celebrities that we’ve only seen before in a scripted environment. Not many “game shows” make you laugh out loud as this one did.
I wish C.F. the very best….
I love this game show. I bet it would get more viewers if it was in a better time slot, like Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. Please give it another year at least.
